The raven pecked her hand again, a little harder. She snatched her hand back out of range and just stared at him.
“Right. I guess you don’t know that since you don’t remember anything. May as well sit down, this could take a bit.”
She sank to the ground, suddenly feeling just how tired she really was. The raven nodded and began again.
“I am Morgan. As I said, we know each other. Hmmm, where to even begin?” He laughed, a series of harsh croaks and caws.
“Once upon a time…”
Viola groaned.
The raven continued, “Our story really does start in another galaxy, but that’s probably going too far back for the moment. I guess I should begin by explaining where we are. And why.
This is Dreamtime. What most people consider ‘normal’ human dreaming is just their subconscious mind trying to resolve internal conflicts, or indulge unaccomplished wishes. But Dreamtime is something else. There are various opinions as to whether this is part of the astral realms or if it just adjoins them. Regardless, it does operate in many of the same ways. What happens to you here can affect your physical self in some ways.”
Viola was suddenly reminded of all the times she had woken up with strange injuries.
The raven nodded his head and replied to her unspoken thought, “Yeah, you’ve been here before, at different points in your life. You just haven’t reached a level of consciousness yet to be able to remember. But this one, you will. I think probably that’s enough for now. As it is, you’ll likely have a headache and think you’ve gone mad when you wake up. That’s pretty par for the course. Just take it easy and drink a lot of water. Hydration is your friend. Get a nice bath with some salt in it, too. You need some real sleep now, your body needs rest. I’m going to send you back now and we will talk again soon.”
Viola opened her mouth to protest, but she found she was just opening her mouth to yawn as she opened her eyes to her bedroom.
