7 Melissa studied herself in the locker-room mirror. The person who stared back at her was a complete stranger, a tall and reed-slender young woman in a black vest over a sleeveless gray t-shirt. There was a mole on her left cheek now. Her hair was cut boyishly short and it stood straight up, black at the root and silver at the tips. Closing her eyes, Melissa leaned forward, bracing her hands on either side of the sink. “Such is the price of a career in law enforcement,” she muttered. “You want to go undercover, you have to look the part.” In the mirror, she saw Gabi standing behind her with the tips of two fingers over her mouth. “Not bad,” the other woman said. “It will fool anyone who doesn't look too close, but there is a risk.” Turning around, Melissa leaned against the counter w
