Chapter 13: Reward

With the power output magnified from his side as well, the confrontation was immediately reduced between him and the mid-level into a one-on-one combat. The mid-level took a stride and like a lightning, it appeared in front of Wanda with its claw crackling with violent sparks as it descends towards his skull. Wanda snorted and aiming the Reviver, *Pew!* a fine but concentrated blast of Mana greeted the coming claw. *Bang! The collision produced a loud bang accompanied with layers after layers of violent shockwaves rushing to all directions. *SWOOSH!!* These waves then ignited the twisting of the wind, creating huge tornadoes which ravaged the fields surrounding them. Succeeding that parry, Wanda instantly flashed to the mid-level’s right and rousing a capsule, his left which wield the Reviver was coated by a golden hue and he slashes diagonally, brandishing the Reviver like a blade. *Boom! The thunder-like impact struck the mid-level, sending it immediately flying to the sky where its stature exploded into million pieces. Threat neutralized but as part of the hex’s design, one and then another will consistently take its place until it is exhausted. Half a day later, he had already faced six mid-levels while the present progression trapped him with the same number of adversaries. Wanda took a deep breath, concentrating as two simultaneously rushed towards him. *Pew!* A subtle piercing sound echoed out when he shot the one approaching from the left, *Boom!* while a blast exploded when he quickly moved his gun to block the punch of the one coming from the front. The former deflected his shot with a swipe and he threw a kick to the latter. *Pew!* He fired another shot to the left and for the second time, it was deflected. On the other hand, his kick had flung the other for quite a distance, temporarily shirting the fight into a one-on-one. He then spun the cylinder thrice with the Sub-zero Rouge loaded in it. [SUB-ZERO ROUGE] [EXCEED CHARGE!] *Bang! The shot was deflected yet again but with the Sub-zero Rouge in effect, lumps of ice were manifested and bound the Unkgood’s body, trapping it, while on the other side, the second Unkgood had regained its footing. However, before it could assume back its combat stance, Wanda quickly spun the cylinder again, releasing another shot of the Exceed Charge *Bang!*. The two Unkgoods were frozen still and when Wanda exposed the chambers to load new capsules, *Pank!! The frozen Unkgoods shattered into fine ice crystals. “Man, this sight thing is really a bother,” he complained, blinking quickly as the Reviver was straightened again to clash the four remaining Unkgoods. As someone who had long established adeptness with his blindness and Mana Sense, the disruption created by his recovered sight and then pair it with his current smaller stature had significantly declined his marksmanship. *Boom!* Kicking the ground to erase the remaining distance, the four Unkgoods suspended above him and simultaneously fired down ear-deafening soundwaves from their faceless heads. *Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Intermittent violent explosions occurred when he parried those soundwaves by waving and spinning the Reviver against his grasp. ‘Ugh!’ Unfortunately, some of the fragmented waves had struck him and without the protection of his Amylian armour, his limbs and shoulders were immediately covered with blood. However, as he defended, the Reviver was actually rousing a combination… [MARVELOUS GOLD] + [SAVAGE ORANGE] + [STORM YELLOW] …from the capsules of gold, orange, and yellow. *BANG! [SOAR! COILING SERPENT!] He pulled the trigger and immediately, a gigantic golden serpent congealed from Reviver and hissed loudly before soaring high into the sky, right straight towards the four Unkgoods. This serpent is made entirely of Mana and the mid-part of its length coiled around Wanda to protect him. It held some essence fragments of an ancient mythic serpent which instantly display its ferocity when it opened its fanged mouth and savagely snapped for a bite. *HISSS! Several of the newly descending low-levels were annihilated by the serpent’s mere presence while the mid-level caught between its fangs was burnt to ashes when it snapped its mouth close. As for the rest, they were flung to three directions in their attempt to evade. However, one was quickly caught by the serpent’s tail before it could gain distance and with a quick squeeze of its tail, it immediately combust and followed the first one to oblivion. ‘Chase it!’ Wanda internally commanded then he slashed the Reviver on the air akin to wielding a sword and the serpent chased after the closer of the two remaining mid-levels. *Hiss!  The serpent immediately caught up and tackled the Unkgood’s body *Bang!* where they both dived and crashed to the ground. There was no suspense. The third was taken down just like that and the serpent disappeared, leaving only a dome which shields Wanda who had now trained his gun to the final Unkgood. *Swoosh!* The dome disperse into waves of golden light which gathered against the muzzle of the Reviver. *BOOM! The released shot was a massive, golden sphere which, after shredding the final mid-level to oblivion, exploded into a sky encompassing storm that sent waves after waves of powerful winds, vanquishing the rest of the low-levels. ◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇ The expressions of the people guarding the stone slab were dark. It had been three days now since the hexing which totally shut the Worm Field off. “Any news from the Tower?” Vincent demanded from his aide, probably for the hundredth time again for the day. The Alchemy Tower was the one to figure out the hex and in concocting a solution, they are leading too. Unfortunately, this unfortunate affair had coincide when the most capable person in the Tower, his grandchild Lugiel, had entered into his secluded research where he uses a high-tiered camouflage method that even he, the most powerful cultivator in Grimlands, is incapable of intruding. Thus, they can only rely to the Tower’s available manpower and unfortunately, without Lugiel, they are not enough to resolve this right away. “Nothing yet, Clan Master,” his aide replied regrettably. Then, he said, “Clan Master, you haven’t slept in three days. Maybe you should have some rest. We’ll keep watch here.” “Our young ones and an unfortunate child are trapped in there,” he pointed at the stone slab. “How could I rest in a time like this?” Vincent was determined. As the Clan Master, he must see this through until it is resolved. Suddenly, one of the guarding men shouted. Vincent and his aide had also noticed it right away. “The portal is opening!” “They’re coming out!” Led by Vincent, they all rushed to the portal as the Seeds made their exit. Though it might be a wishful thinking, Vincent is hoping that all the 98 people trapped inside are safe. But to his surprise, not only that it turned out to be the case but there’s also an unknown 99th individual among them. When he demanded of his identity, his grandchildren explained on his behalf. “Lugiel sent him?” “Yes,” Athena lowered her head. “Cousin expected that something like this might happen so he commissioned some mercenaries just in case.” “If it weren’t for him, there might have been casualties,” Ging pointed out.  Vincent then approached the nameless mercenary, “Thank you for your aid, warrior. Clan Fawkes will never forget this favour.” The mercenary awkwardly waves his hands, “No, no, it was a job. I just did what I was paid for.” “You protected the future defenders of the realms. Job or not, you have our gratitude.” “That’s heartening,” he nodded. “Thank you.” Then, he pulled out the signet of House Talene and hand it over to him. “Apparently, he is not here. So, I’ll have this returned through you, Clan Master. This is to prove that I’d fulfilled my contract.” “In behalf of my grandchild, thank you for your service,” he said upon receiving the signet. “But in behalf of Clan Fawkes, I wish to personally reward you. So, if you can spare some of your time, follow me.”
