I stayed awake long after Winter left, the weight of her words pressing heavily on my chest. Someone was threatening her. I didn’t know who they were or what they wanted, but the thought of them getting anywhere near her or her son made my blood boil.
She had been carrying this alone. For how long? The idea of her trying to face something so dangerous without telling me, without trusting me, stung more than I wanted to admit.
