Winter’s POV I’m sitting at the kitchen table, the hum of the refrigerator filling the silence between Damon and me. He’s in the living room, interacting with Kai, a scene I thought I’d never see. Damon, with his gentle smile and easy laugh, leaned down to help Kai stack his blocks. It’s simple, yet something about it makes my heart tighten in my chest. I told him we’d take it one step at a time, but I could already feel myself cracking. I’m not sure if I’m ready to let him in, but I also can’t seem to push him away. He’s here. He’s real.
