Winter’s POV The steady rhythm of Kai’s laughter echoed through the house as I finished packing my bag for the day. Cami had taken him into the backyard, the two of them working on what Kai proudly called his “super Lego fortress.” I paused at the window, watching them through the glass. Kai’s blonde curls gleamed in the sunlight, his blue eyes sparkling as he held up a piece of his creation for Cami’s approval. My chest tightened, the familiar wave of guilt rising unbidden.
