Chapter 9: How Did you Know my Name?

652 Words

By midday, I’m losing my mind. I’ve been stuck in this room, pacing the same ten steps back and forth, staring at the same walls, the same window, the same door I’m not allowed to open. The serving woman brings food without speaking, just like before. She sets the tray down, bows her head slightly, and leaves. I try talking to her again. “Can you tell Kael I want to leave this room?” She doesn’t even look at me. She just walks out. Great. I eat because I’m starving, not because I’m calm. I lie on the bed. I sit on the floor. I stare at the ceiling. I scream into a pillow. I throw that same pillow at the door. By the time the sun starts dipping, I’m ready to claw my way out through the window if I have to. The door finally opens. Kael steps inside like he hasn’t been gone all day.
