“I love you” I tell him for the first time. He stops. He looks like it’s taking him a lifetime to process the words that have just escaped my mouth, and he’s wondering if I really, actually said them. “I love you, Jasmine.” He finally replies. His eyes shift between glowing golden-orange and black, as if he can’t decide what emotion to feel. I smile back at him, indicating to him that I meant what I said.
