Chapter 4: The Library Incident

1094 Words
I exit my room, eager to walk around the city and clear my head after my conversation with the sassy princess. As I stroll down the corridor towards the exit, I'm hurried along by the desire to not waste any more time. After a couple of minutes, I open the door to reveal the bright, cheerful day. Children are yelling and running about, their laughter echoing through the air, while parents watch on with smiles on their faces. Surrounding the city are beautiful houses and quaint shops, a sight that captivates me as it's my first time witnessing something so charming. I take it all in, marveling at the unmoderness of it all. *Kid running and cheering* "Hey mommy, Can we get some apples?" the little kid exclaims with excitement. "No, Johnny," the mother responds, "We have food at home." "But the food at home is terrible!" Johnny protests. "Just deal with it," the mother says, grabbing her son's hand and leading him away, trying to maintain a sense of normalcy This place is so different yet... so familiar. As I continue to explore the city, I'm on a mission to discover every nook and cranny of this expansive place. After a while of walking and resting, I stumble upon a library. Oh, they have libraries here too, that's quite nice. As I was about to walk away, I overhear a teenager whispering to what appears to be his sister or girlfriend. "Hey Velaria, I'm gonna go find some books about magic at the library; you could walk around if you want." In that moment, I realized that I could learn magic from these books here, preparing me for the academy's entrance exam. As I step into the library, I'm greeted by a gentle breeze, which I soon realize is the result of an air conditioning system. I walk in relief, grateful for the respite from the heat. I momentarily forget about the AC's source and approach the receptionist at the counter, intending to ask how they manage it. "Excuse me," I say, but she shushes me, signaling for silence. "What do you want?" she asks brusquely. "How do you have air conditioning?" I whisper, trying to avoid drawing attention. She looks at me with disbelief, unable to conceal her disdain. "What's an air conditioning system?" "The cooling system!" I whisper back. She rolls her eyes, clearly unimpressed by my lack of knowledge. "It's not an air conditioning system. It's wind magic. You know, the kind of magic that creates a breeze?" She says sarcastically. I feel embarrassed and a bit foolish. "Thank you," I mumble, turning around to leave. As I walk away, I catch a glimpse of the magic section she had pointed out. The corner is filled with books of various titles, mostly focused on different elements of magic. I scan the titles: "Fire Magic: A Commoner's Guide," "What is Wind Magic?", "Ice in My Veins," and other similar book titles. As I browse through the aisles, a particular book catches my eye. Lightning: The Rarest Of All Submagics. I study the book, and a lightbulb goes off in my head. THIS IS THE BOOK FOR ME! STAT WINDOW Learn about magic +10 Speed: 54 +5 Strength: 15 (weak b***h) +3 Movement: 31 +33 Magic: 33 I grin at the window, thinking of a suitable nickname since I can't stand calling it the "Stat Window." I'll call you... Jarvis! Yes, Jarvis it is. Do you like that name Jarvis? Jarvis: f**k you! (Jarvis wants to punch you but he can't because he isn't a physical being) Anyways, I go to a chair and I start navigating through the book. Observing page by page, learning as much as I can from the book. Until suddenly, Boom! I cover my ears because it's loud as f**k, after the noise calms down I hear people screaming and running, A big man with a black cloak and big muscles towers over the receptionist. "Give me every book about magic for free, and give me some cash while you do so" The man smirks and the lady obeys him, fearful of the man. I look in shock, I want to help but there's nothing I can do! I mean, I don't know magic and I only have 15 strength! Suddenly, Jarvis comes out of nowhere Jarvis: Do you want to memorize the whole book? Yes No In an immediate action, I slam the yes button. Suddenly, I feel a surge of pain that could be felt from the deepest pits of my body. I fall down in pain, screaming as loud as I could. The man stares at me and eventually, walks towards me. "This boy is tweaking out, I should end his miserable life." He grabs his axe and just before he was about to hit me, I grab the axe, "Say that s**t again." I stare straight at his eyes, sending fear everywhere in his body. He tightens his grip on his axe. "Y-you won't scare me, you're t-tiny" He looks at me before swinging at me, before the blade hits me, I jolt to the side, it just missing me and with this newfound power, I cover my first in electricity and punch the s**t out of his face, dropping him to the ground. "Say that again, bitch." The man crawls away in fear, "I-im sorry! I won't do it again!" the man gets on all fours and begs me to forgive him. But oh, I will never forgive his type of people. "Electric Blade" The man looks up in disbelief, and in his final moments, I cut off his head. Jarvis: Well done. That was quite the impressive display of power. I sit there in silence, as if I was sad at what i've just done. Jarvis: Ain't no fuckin way man🤦‍♂️ "That was.... SICK!" I shout in excitement, happy as to what I just did! "Thank you Jarvis!" The receptionist is weirded out, seeing me talking to nothing. She glances at me, then at the door, and back again, unsure of what to make of the situation. In the meantime, the fallen books scatter the floor, and the woman sighs before starting to pick them up. "I was saved, but by this weirdo," she mutters to herself, a mix of confusion and irritation in her voice. She finishes tidying the books and shakes her head, clearly shaken by the events that just transpired. "I don't get paid enough for this!" she exclaims, more to herself than to anyone else.
