“Change is worth fighting for.”
Tiwa was still sleeping around 9:00am on Saturday. Her friends had the opinion that she is tired after the match yesterday between Art department and Commercial department. But it seems to them that if no one will wake Tiwa up she will sleep until tomorrow.
“Hello girl, won’ t you wake up.” Vivian received no response from Tiwa. She moved closer and tapped her. Merely taping her Vivian noticed that Tiwa’s body is incredibly hot.
“Whaaaat!!!!!” Vivian screaming drew so many attentions.
“Why did you scream that way?” Prosper queried angrily.
“Touch her body and see why I screamed.” Prosper touched Tiwa’s body and saw that her body temperature is high.
“Wake her up and pour cold water all over her body to cool down her temperature.” The matron advised.
“Yes ma.” Replied Vivian.
Immediately, Vivian woke Tiwa up, took her to the bathroom and she poured some cold water on her which made Tiwa to complain.
“ooo the water is too cold.”
“Too cold you say, when your body temperature is high you are now saying that it is cold, I pity you.”
“Don’t you know that I am feeling cold from the inside.”
“Shut up and let me bathe you.”
Meanwhile, when Vivian is busy bathing Tiwa, Achiever helped in preparing the things Tiwa will need after bathe. After Vivian is done, she took Tiwa to her own room and dressed for her. She ordered Tiwa to sleep after she is done dressing for her. Tiwa felt restless and unhappy, it is unusual of her because she is not the type that won’t reply to everything going on.
“Tiwa come and eat cornflakes.” Vivian persuaded her
“No, I don’t feel like eating anything.”
“What about your favorite food, peppery noodles.”
“No, thanks.”
“Try to eat something.”
“I told you I don’t have an appetite.”
“Remember Nurse Tife will not give you drugs if he finds out that you have not eaten.”
“I am sure we have talked about this ad nauseum right.”
“Okeydokey, no more persuading.”
“Good.”
“I leave you to yourself.” There are no replies after what Vivian said.
It was evening already, hommies are dressing up to go to the dining hall. Achiever woke Tiwa up, dressed her and they were ready so, along with Vivian they went to the dining hall. When they got there, Mike saw how Tiwa is behaving and her quietness was unusual he noticed everything and he is disturbed about what has happened to his beloveth. He moved to where the girls eat and asked Vivian to come that he wants to talk to her, Vivian moved closer to where he was:
“What happened to Tiwa.”
“She is not feeling well ooo.”
“You don’t mean it.”
“Like I hoped.”
“So what’s her condition now.”
` “Getting better, you know I mean the opposite right.”
“Have she eaten.”
“No oh, in fact she refused to eat anything since morning claiming that she does not have an appetite.”
” Really.”
“Yes.”
“Like seriously!”
“I am not joking ooo.”
“Does she know that nurse Ayo will not attend to her if he finds out that she has not eaten anything at all since morning.”
“Help me tell her ooo because I am tired of saying that to her every seconds.”
“I will talk to her.”
“Yeah, I pray she listens.” He walked away to talk to Tiwa and all other students around her excused them.
“Hey Tiwa.”
“Wassup Mike.”
“I learnt that you are not feeling well.”
“Just tired.”
“Just tired? And your body temperature is high since morning.”
“Yeah, just tired.”
“Have you eaten.”
“Yes.”
“What did you eat?”
“Cornflakes.”
“And you are bold enough to lie to my face, I heard from Vivian that you have been persuaded to eat a lot of things, things that people are not opportune to eat just when they like instead you refused to take any of it.”
“So she told you.”
“No, she won’t, why is she your best friend if she cannot talk to you and you should listen.”
“See I don’t have an appetite ooo and I have tried all I know to make her understand but it seems she choose not to adhere to my wordings.”
“Just as if everything she has been doing is not for your benefit.”
“I know that it is for my benefit.”
“Then why are you making it hard for her to take care of you.”
“Nobody seems to understand what I feel.”
“What are you feeling, make me understand because I don’t understand you at all.”
“Am sorry.”
“You don’t have to be sorry, you have to be grateful.”
“Fine, am grateful.”
“Not to me, but to your friends and perhaps you don’t know you can only be grateful by listening to them and not them listening to you at this stage they know better than you.”
“Fine.”
“Better do as I say, okay.”
“Yes.”
“That’s my girl.” Tiwa managed to smile.
“Okay what do you want to eat now.”
“I want something peppery.”
“Okay I will prepare your favorite food peppery noodles, what do you think.”
“Quintessential.”
“No problem, give me some minutes.”
“Sure waiting.”
“Okeydokey.” Mike left there satisfied with the outcome of their conversation and Tiwa was happy then Vivian and Achiever moved closer to Tiwa and examined her.”
“What happened just now.” Vivian queried.
“Nothing much.” Tiwa replied.
“Okay ma, so are you going to eat now.”
“Yes, but Mike is bringing it.”
Then Vivian turned to Achiever.
“I know something is going on.” Vivian said.
“Yes, I thought as much.” Achiever added.
“Okay ooo let’s continue to see the game.” Concluded Vivian.
Finally, it is three minutes past six and Tiwa has been waiting for Mike to bring the food to her but it seems to her that he is not going to show up. Her temperature increased and she is feeling cold from the inside, which makes her weak. Vivian is done in the dining hall, she along with Achiever took Tiwa to the dispensary where she would be attended to. It was Tiwa’s turn to be treated and nurse Tife told her to seat.
“How are you feeling?”
“Not good at all sir.”
“What are the symptoms or let me put it this way what and what are you feeling.”
“Headache, stomach ache, body pain, cold, bitter mouth and weakness.”
“Do you have eyes pain.”
“Yes.”
“Have you eaten.”
“No sir.” She replied reluctantly.
“Why.”
“I don’t have appetite sir.”
“Will you take gala and team drink.”
“No sir, thanks am really grateful.”
Just then Mike arrived with a food flask in his hand it contains noodles and boiled egg.”
“Am sorry, am late right.”
“No, you are not.” Vivian said sharply.
“Okay then.” Handling over the food to Vivian. Vivian tried to feed Tiwa but she refused the food and at that moment she is shivering
“Say ah.”
“No I don’t want.”
“You have started again ooo.”
“Take it away from me.”
Vivian stood up with a frowning face. She then turned to Mike.
“Can you see.”
“Don’t worry I will take it from here.”
Vivian handed over the food to Mike.
“Tiwa my darling, you have to eat for the easy digestion of the drugs you are going to take into your system.”
“But I don’t want to eat.”
“Okay just take two spoons.”
“No.”
“Yessssssssssss.”
“No.”
“Common, you can do it you are a strong girl.”
“Fine.”
“Okay say ah (he puts it in her mouth) That’s for mummy (the second one.) That’s for daddy. Oya common Treasure own koh, that’s for sister and my own, that’s for Mike. Now it is time to spell my name spoon by spoon. M-mat, I-ink, K-key and finally E-egg.” Meanwhile with all the madness displayed by the both of them all other people in the dispensary watched them with keen interest.
“That’s my girl.” Mike said finally satisfied that Tiwa is able to finish the food with his tricky tactics played on her. The food digested and she is ready to be attended to when her temperature was checked nurse Ayo ordered the girls to bathe for her and after that she was given injections and drugs. In the course of all this Tiwa fell in love with Mike. She admired the fact that a male except from her dad can love her to the extent of taking care of her.
After two weeks, Tiwa recovered fully from her sickness she is now able to stand on her feet all by herself now. Tiwa can no longer hold the fact that she is love with Mike. Tiwa love for Mike is not bearable for her to the extent of keeping it to herself. Then on a particular day Tiwa and Mike are alone in the class; talking about history and life comparing both.
“You know in history we are made to understand that America wasn’t discovered it was built.” Mike said
“No, who told you, it was discovered and not built, but if you say so who built it and how many people built it because it is obvious that only a man cannot build America.”
“J.P. Morgan, Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, Ford and Vanderbilt.”
“Seems am interested in it tell me more about it.”
“I can’t expatiate more on this if you need more information and you are serious about wanting to know more about it watch MEN WHO BUILT AMERICA.”
“Okay, I will get the movie when going home.”
“Yeah, okay bye.”
“Wait.” Tiwa is feeling nervous and scared at that moment to say anything but she summoned courage to talk.
“What happen.” Mike asked.
“I love you.” She said sharply.
The breeze blew into the class, Mike was short of words, he is lost in thought and he pinched himself to be sure if this is the reality or he is dreaming.”
“Em, can you repeat it again.”
“I said I love you, I want us to be dating.” Tiwa emphasized. Once again, silence ruled the place the both of them lost in words and not sure of what to say. Suddenly Mike broke the silence.
“Are you sure of what you are saying or are you still sick.”
“Yes, and for a fact if I am sick that is because I am in love with the right person.”
“Your feet are not steady on the ground, go back home think about it and when you are firm come back and tell me.”
“If you don’t want me again just say it to my face and stop been a coward.” She pulled away and was about to leave just then, Mike pulled her back, his hands round her waist, her chest close to his chest and her hands round his neck.
“No, I still love you.” They stared at each other’s lips not sure of what to do, they started kissing each other drawing one tongue of another turning their head from one place to another with their eyes closed, Mike’s hands rubbing Tiwa’s back. Finally getting out of hand Mike started to kiss Tiwa from her neck almost losing her zip, then Tiwa intervened.
“Stop.”
“Am sorry I didn’t mean to.”
“Am sorry too.”
“It won’t repeat itself I promise.”
“No, it was my fault I was carried away.”
“No, you only confess love and I… I…I.”
“Do you want to know the truth.”
“Yes, yes, yes.”
“I was a little bit expecting this, and to be sincere it was kind of sweet, interesting and it made me feel good.
“Yeah, maybe me too.” After that day they were known as couple in the school among mates that are close to them.
