WHAT NEXT?

“What in heavens name are you doing here?” I questioned Ope.

After we saw him few hours ago, Ryan suggested he takes a rest. I don’t know why but when I asked him why he wants a total stranger to take a rest in his room, he said and I quote.

“I don’t know who he is but I know his coming here meant something and we might as well draw out some information from him before the elders get to him.” Ryan said.

“Why shouldn’t the elders take care of it?” I asked him.

“You may act as if you don’t know but the elders are taking advantage of the fact that you gave them the authority to rule which isn’t their work in the first place. They are your advisers because they have lived long enough to know some solutions to some problems but I don’t think they remember their place.” Ryan said with a straight face.

“So what information do we have to get from him.” I stated more like questioned.

“Don’t you get it still?” He asked me.

“No I don’t.” I said while nodding my head and giving the clueless face.

“The so called elders made mention themselves that no human or magical being can get here except the elders make way for them.” Ryan said and I still gave the clueless face. I still don’t get what he is implying.

“I still wonder why the Creator chose you as the Overlord. No offence.” Ryan mocked me

“None taken.” I replied sarcastically. Definitely I was offended even though he is right, he should be careful of what he says to my face because I can get him punished.

“What I was saying in essence is that, if he got here with the knowledge of the elders they would have made him landed in a place where only they can reach because they know how worried the people can be with ordinary beings.” Ryan said.

“There is definitely something the elders are not telling us.” I said.

“You finally get it. I don’t know how you could be so smart when it comes to book yet you don’t have common sense or do you act like you don’t?” he mocked.

If I wasn’t upset before, definitely I am upset now.

“Will you keep mocking me or will you let us solve the mystery behind this?” I asked between gritted teeth. After he scoffed, we continued talking.

“Maybe they didn’t tell us because they felt we might misuse the opportunity of knowing.” I suggested.

“Talk for yourself, even if they didn’t tell us because of that, what about you? I mean you are the Overlord yet they kept that away from you. Think about it, they said no one from the ordinary being remembers you but how come he still remembers your name? How many more are they keeping from you?” he stated the obvious.

Are they on my side or not? I don’t even know who to trust anymore. In case you are wondering about Ope, Ryan put him to a deep sleep. Thinking about it again, they always wanted to be right, everything they did or say must be right. They never accept that they are wrong. Just the way they wanted to turn their back on their own all because the Harbinger was able to synchronise with her body.

Flashback to 7 months ago

“We can perform an exorcism on her.” I suggested

“No, certain death is the only way out here. She has to die.” Elder Marisol said

“How can you be so sure?” I asked her

“The elders are never wrong.” She replied me

“No one is above a mistake. Just accept you are wrong and let us perform exorcism on her.” I said.

“When people like us make a mistake, we are not always given a chance to make some correction so we never make any mistake.” She said sounding firm

“You want to turn your back against one of your own?” I asked her

“No more questions!!! Kill her.” She commanded the exorcists.

“No don’t.” I looked up to Leslie to back me up and she did. After so much arguments and contemplation, they all decided to try exorcism and when they tried it, it worked.

We sent the Harbinger to Tartarus and saved Margaret.

End of flashback.

Maybe I have given them too much authority that they have forgotten their place. If so, I am going to put them in their place tomorrow. I decided on challenging them tomorrow. Before we left the small hut in the woods, we woke and fed Ope and put him to a deep slumber again. I couldn’t sleep so I read myself the bedtime story my mom reads to me all the time before I clocked ten.

Once upon a time there lived a kingdom where animals and people lived in. The name of the kingdom is Aiye and it was ruled by a very proud human king who has 3 daughters. His daughters are of age for marriage but because they are the princess of the land and his precious daughter he wants to keep them unmarried and confined in the palace. After so many persuasion from his chiefs and subjects, he told the town crier to go around the town and announce that his precious princesses are up for marriage and eligible suitors can come to take them for marriage.

The day for the suitors picking came all the villagers came to dine and see the successful suitors. The king felt humiliated when he saw animals also coming for his daughters hand in marriage not to talk of low born men. Well he didn't make specifications did he? Because the king doesn't like any of the men and is still against giving out his daughters for marriage he then gave the suitors a difficult task. He already prepared enough pot of soup for all suitors. His task was that if anyone can drink a large bowl of hot soup at once without blowing air into his mouth then he will give him his three daughters and half of his kingdom. The whole villagers gasped at the task the suitors were given. The king felt satisfied when some suitors gave up before the task had begun, the king heaved a sigh of relief knowing very well that no one can finish the task he gave the suitors.

The elephant came with confidence but he barely took a sip before he gave up. Lots and lots of animals and men came forward but they all failed woefully. Then it got to the turn of a very mischievous and clever animal, Mr tortoise. Mr tortoise took the bowl of hot soup but instead of drinking it, he went to the king and told the king "oh my king this is the bowl of soup and I will drink it and win." He went to the queen and told her the same thing and then he went round going to everyone present there and by the time he was done with everyone the soup had become cold and then he drank everything in one gulp without going against the king's condition. The king was disappointed but then a king cannot go back on his words. That was how the king's beautiful and cherished daughters got married to Mr tortoise and half of the king's kingdom was given to Mr tortoise. The king learned to never underestimate anything again be it, people or animals.

I kept on reading the story all over again until I slept off.

“Why did you call for an emergency meeting?” Elder Marisol asked.

“Wanted to know what more you are keeping away from me Marisol.” There was a loud gasp and murmuring. No one has ever dared call her by name but I was too furious to control myself.

“And what are you supposed to mean by that?” Marisol asked me

“The fact that there is a way to go to the ordinary world without the help of an elder or the fact that none of the ordinary being has forgotten about me.” I said. I gave them the look that said caught you.

“And what do you have to prove that?” Melanie asked me.

“Still proving right are we? Bring him in I was in a place last night, obviously thinking of a way not to bring doom to the world before I came across this ordinary being and guess what, he was also a part of my life when I once lived as an ordinary being. Surprisingly, he remembers me. What do you have to say for yourself?” I asked in a challenging tone

“I still don’t get what you are trying to prove. And as for this young man, he should be killed immediately.” Marisol said. I got furious. Don’t they get it? I caught them red handed already and they are still acting like they know nothing.

“it is better for everyone you all quit acting. And as for him, I am the Overlord and I get to decide what I do with him because he trespassed on the land I am ruling. And as for the elders, it is better you have some explanation ready tomorrow because we are entering the court room.” With that said, I ordered the guards to take Ope to the prepared guest room. And just as I was about to follow, Marisol’s words stopped me.

“Are you challenging the elders? I bet you don’t want the others to find out how you will bring doom to them.” Marisol threatened me.

“That sounded like a threat and if indeed it is, I am challenging you to it. in case you have forgotten, I am the Overlord and you are becoming rebellious. I will make you roll on the floor begging for mercy at my feet. You will regret challenging me.” I said and walked out with murmurs following me.

To be honest, I am scared. I don’t know the reaction of the people but one thing I know best is that, if I let that threat get to me, that won’t be the only time she will use that against me. Moreover, be it late or sooner, they will still find out so finding out sooner is better than dancing to the elders tunes. I just have to get a very strong debate against them.

The elders declared WAR with me. It is time I stopped brooding and show them what I am made of.
