Chapter 5: Unexpected Revelations

I couldn't help but smile as I watched Seraphina's eyes widen in surprise. The soft morning light filtering through the curtains caught the silver in her hair, making it shimmer like starlight. Even pale and tired as she was, she took my breath away. "What, Luna wants to see me?" Seraphina asked, her voice a mix of confusion and apprehension. I nodded, trying to keep my tone reassuring. "Don't worry, it's nothing bad. My mother is just... curious." Kael, never one to miss an opportunity for a joke, chimed in with a grin. "Of course! Isn't it normal for Luna to see the next Luna?" I shot him a warning glance, but the damage was done. Seraphina's face flushed a deep red, her eyes darting between Kael and me. "I... what?" she stammered, clearly flustered. Lucian, always the voice of reason, stepped in before things could get more awkward. "What my tactless brother means," he said, shooting Kael a look that promised retribution later, "is that our mother is interested in meeting you. As our guest." I could see the tension in Seraphina's shoulders ease slightly, but confusion still clouded her eyes. "But why? I'm nobody special." The words sent a pang through my heart. How could she not see how extraordinary she was? "That's not true," I said softly, resisting the urge to take her hand. "You're important to us. And..." I hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. "There's something else you should know." Lucian picked up the thread, his tone serious. "Our parents have decided not to inform the Crimson Moon Pack about your whereabouts, at least for now." Seraphina's eyes widened again, this time with a mix of relief and gratitude. "Really? But... won't that cause problems for your pack?" "We can handle it," I assured her. "Your safety and well-being are more important." A small smile tugged at her lips, and I felt my heart skip a beat. "Thank you," she whispered. "All of you. " "Well," Kael drawled, a mischievous glint in his eye, "Could you tell us why the Crimson Moon Pack is willing to shell out 10 million for information on your whereabouts." I watched as the color drained from Seraphina's face. "W-what?" she gasped. "That's... that's impossible. Why would they...?" Lucian frowned, his brow furrowing in concern. "You had no idea they were looking for you?" Seraphina shook her head, her silver hair catching the light again. "I thought... I mean, after everything that happened, I assumed no one would even notice I was gone. Let alone care enough to look for me." The raw pain in her voice made my wolf howl in distress. I wanted nothing more than to gather her in my arms, to shield her from the world that had hurt her so deeply. But I held back, knowing she needed space to process this information. "Well," I said, trying to keep my voice light, "it seems you're more important than you realized. But don't worry, you're safe here. No one will force you to go back if you don't want to." Seraphina nodded, but I could see the wheels turning in her mind. "Thank you," she said again. "I just... I need time to think about all this." "Of course," Lucian agreed. "Take all the time you need. But for now, if you're feeling up to it, our mother is eager to meet you." I watched as Seraphina took a deep breath, squaring her shoulders. "Okay," she said, a determined glint in her eye. "I'm ready." As we made our way through the winding corridors of the pack house, I couldn't help but steal glances at Seraphina. She walked between Lucian and me, with Kael bringing up the rear. Despite her obvious nervousness, there was a quiet strength about her that drew me in. We arrived at the door to our mother's private sitting room, and I felt Seraphina tense beside me. "It's okay," I murmured, giving in to the urge to place a comforting hand on her lower back. "My mother might seem intimidating at first, but she has a kind heart. She'll love you." Seraphina looked up at me, a mixture of gratitude and something else I couldn't quite name shining in her eyes. "Thank you, Asher," she whispered. "For everything." Before I could respond, Lucian knocked on the door. A moment later, our mother's melodic voice called out, "Come in!" As we entered the room, I heard my mother gasp. I looked up to see her staring at Seraphina, her face a mask of shock. "Lyra?" she breathed, taking a step forward. Confusion flickered across Seraphina's face. "No, Luna," she said hesitantly. "My name is Seraphina." For a moment, my mother seemed frozen in place, her eyes never leaving Sera's face. Then, slowly, she shook her head as if clearing away cobwebs. "Of course," she murmured, more to herself than to us. "Forgive me, dear. You just... you look so much like someone I used to know." I exchanged a puzzled glance with my brothers. In all our years, we'd never seen our mother so shaken. "Mom?" I said softly, stepping forward. "Are you alright?" She blinked, focusing on me for a moment before her gaze was drawn back to Seraphina. "Yes, yes, I'm fine. It's just... the resemblance is uncanny. The silver hair, those blue eyes..." Her voice trailed off, lost in memory. "Luna," Seraphina said hesitantly, "if you don't mind me asking, who is Lyra?" My mother's eyes misted over, a sad smile playing at her lips. "Lyra was... is... one of my dearest friends. We grew up together, trained together. She was like a sister to me." "Was?" Lucian prompted gently. Our mother sighed, motioning for us all to sit. As we settled into the plush sofas, she continued, "Lyra was the Luna of the Silver Creek Pack. A strong, kind leader. Beloved by her people." "Silver Creek Pack?" Sera asked with confusion, "I have never heard about this pack." "It was the most powerful pack in our country 20 years ago." My mother explained. "But," my mother went on, her voice heavy with old grief, "about twenty years ago, there was an attack. The entire Silver Creek Pack was wiped out in a single night. No survivors were ever found." A heavy silence fell over the room. "I'm so sorry," Sera whispered finally. "That must have been terrible for you." My mother nodded, her eyes still fixed on Seraphina's face. "It was. And seeing you... it's like looking at a ghost. How old are you?" "I'm...20 years old." Sera hestitated but finally said.
