Chapter 17

Since Arohi and Ishaan had decided to stay longer, her father had something special in mind. “I’m throwing a party,” he announced at breakfast one morning. Arohi looked up from her plate, startled. “A party?” “Yes, a grand celebration to welcome my daughter and son-in-law home properly.” Ishaan chuckled. “Papa, that’s not necessary—” Arohi’s father waved a hand dismissively. “Nonsense! When you both got married, everything was done in such a short time. We never got to celebrate properly. Now is the time to *show off* my son-in-law.” Arohi groaned. “Papa…” Her mother smiled. “Let us do this for you, beta. It’s not every day that we get to celebrate our only daughter and her husband.” Ishaan and Arohi exchanged glances, knowing they had no choice but to surrender to their parents’ enthusiasm. Over the next few days, the entire house was transformed. Fairy lights draped from every corner, fresh flowers lined the entrance, and a grand stage was set up in the garden. Her father spared no expense, inviting all their relatives, business partners, and friends. Even Ishaan’s parents and family friends were invited. To make the evening even more special, Arohi’s father took them to a high-end designer boutique for custom-made outfits. “Papa, this is too much,” Arohi protested as she ran her fingers over the intricate embroidery of the pink lehenga. Her father merely smiled. “Nothing is too much for my princess.” Ishaan chuckled beside her. “I think he’s enjoying this way too much.” Her father turned to him with a smirk. “Of course. I finally get to spoil my daughter and my son-in-law.” Despite their protests, they couldn’t deny how exquisite their outfits were. The night of the party arrived, and the house buzzed with life. Guests poured in, laughter and music filled the air, and the aroma of delicious food surrounded them. Ishaan, dressed in an expensive, tailored black suit, stood beside Arohi’s father as he was introduced to relatives and business associates. “Ishaan, meet Mr. Khanna, one of my oldest friends,” her father said. Ishaan shook hands, exchanging pleasantries with everyone. He handled every conversation with ease, charming Arohi’s father’s associates effortlessly. And then, everything around him blurred. Arohi walked down the staircase in a breathtaking mermaid-cut pink lehenga. The intricate embroidery shimmered under the lights, hugging her curves perfectly. Her long hair cascaded down in soft curls, and her jewelry sparkled like stars. Ishaan felt his heart skip a beat. She was stunning. For a moment, he forgot about everyone else in the room. His feet moved on their own as he made his way toward her. Arohi met his gaze, and a soft smile graced her lips. When he reached her, he extended his hand. “Shall we?” She placed her hand in his, feeling warmth spread through her. “We shall.” As they walked through the crowd, Arohi looped her arm through Ishaan’s. “You look beautiful,” Ishaan murmured. Arohi smiled. “You don’t look too bad yourself.” They greeted guests together, Arohi still holding onto his arm. Ishaan could feel the warmth of her touch, a silent reassurance that she was by his side. As the night went on, he couldn’t stop smiling. In that moment, surrounded by family, love, and celebration, he realized—this was happiness
