CHAPTER 5
Emily and Ridan stood amidst the chaos, their eyes locked. Emily kept having that feeling that she and Ridan were going to overcome and defeat Cassius.
"Thank you," Emily said, her voice barely above a whisper. Grateful, because he's offering to help. Instead of Ridan to reply to her, he took a step closer to Emily with unreadable eyes. Emily froze! She couldn't move as she felt his hands on her jawline, then on her lips, down to her neck. Without awareness, he leaned forward and kissed her! She felt a sparkle in her head. She instinctively closed her eyes as he moved his lips over hers. Ridan pulled her closer holding her waist possessively. Emily opened her eyes abruptly hitting Ridan hard in the chest before pushing him from herself.
"What the heck, Ridan! Are you trying to take advantage of me or what?" She asked angrily. Ridan only smirked as he licked his lips.
"Pervert!" She concluded before turning to leave. Ridan pulled her back causing Emily to glare at him angrily.
"Let's conclude our discussion, Emily; we will make a good time for you now," Ridan said, trying to get her mind off the passionate kiss they just shared even though she did not respond. His mind reeled mischievously; he was going to wait till she kissed him back, for he could not deny the fact that he had feelings for her. Emily's heart was still racing; she knew she had to be cautious. She sure enjoyed the kiss but she needs to focus at this particular time. Ridan was a Blackwood, after all.
As they walked back to their respective packs, Emily's mind reeled. What had just happened? She got to her pack and was taken aback to find out that all the pack members were waiting for her, including Leonardo, whom she saw sleeping earlier. It was obvious that Leonardo knew she wanted to meet Ridan with the way he stared anxiously at her. Her pack gathered around, concerned.
"What did Ridan want?" Leonardo asked inquisitively.
Emily hesitated unsure if he was going to accept. "He wants to help us take down Cassius."
Leonardo's eyes narrowed. "Why would he do that?"
Emily shrugged not sure as well. "He says Cassius is working for his father."
Leonardo's expression turned thoughtful. "Victor Blackwood's involvement changes things." They all know that everything he gets involved in is always resolved.
Emily's thoughts turned to Ridan. What secrets was he hiding?
That night, Emilia met Ridan again at the old oak tree. It seems she has always met him recently, but she keeps settling in her mind that they need to work together to conquer Cassius, with nothing much attached. Her hearts flutter each time she thinks about him or sees him, and she still does not know what's wrong with her. Her brother mustn't even hear, so she decided to keep everything to herself and solve it all by herself. She kept breathing down repeatedly, reminding herself not to look so excited when she saw him.
"I have a plan," Ridan said, his eyes gleaming.
Emily listened intently as Ridan outlined his strategy. Emily couldn't help but wow seeing the way he cunningly dropped his strategies. Though she has her doubts.
"It's risky," Emily said.
Ridan nodded. "I know, but it's our best chance."
Emily took a deep breath. "Let's do it." She believes she can rely on him for stuff like this because he seems good. After settling in, Ridan diverted from the subject matter.
"So, about yesterday's kiss..." He said smirking.
"Don't talk about it Ridan."
"Oww, I love the way you pronounced my name. Can you do that again please?" He asked teasingly.
"Shut up and focus, Ridan." She said eyeing him.
Together, they forged an uneasy alliance. Over the next few days, Emily and Riden worked tirelessly. Gathering intelligence, recruiting allies, and planning their attack. Leonardo's fear of Ridan helping them began to wand. He studies his sister and notices that she has feelings for their so-called helper. He is happy about that since that was the first time she would like someone. Emily's pack began to trust Ridan as they were familiar with him already. Leonardo even praised his skills and sense of reasoning. But Emily knew better. She knows him more than others. Ridan was hiding something, she was so sure of it, but she couldn't pinpoint what exactly for now. She decided to speak with him about it. As they prepared for battle, Emily confronted Ryder.
"What's your true motive?" Emily asked confusedly. Ridan's eyes locked onto hers admiring her true self. One thing he likes about her is that she doesn't hide her true nature. She is inquisitive and he is ready to answer all her questions.
"I want to protect my family," Ridan said.
Emily's heart skipped a beat. "Your family?"
"Yes, my family."
"From your father?" Emily asked. Ryder nodded in approval causing Emily's head to reel. She couldn't believe her ears. Raiden was playing both sides. Was he deceiving her all from the beginning? Did he use her? Her mind was in a mess and she needed clarity on it. She left his presence in her room as his reply kept replaying in her head. She doesn't want a situation where she is going to break down. She made up her mind not to tell Leonardo because she knew that he was going to go wild and destroy Ridan without thinking twice. She has gone through situations far more than this,, which she has kept to hersel,f, not revealing to anyo,ne, not even her best friend. She felt the urge to cry but she is not the type to give up easily. She kept sighing repeatedly, trying to convince herself that it was not what she was thinking. Or was she deceived? Was in on Cassius' side but deceived her to be able to gain access to her pack? She was confused as hell.
But whose side was he on?
