Moonstone Awaits

1378 Words
Lyra’s POV I walked through the forest, my heart beating fast. The blood moon was high, and its light made the trees look dark and tall. I did not know exactly where I was going, but something inside me pulled me forward. It was stronger than anything I had ever felt. The air smelled different here. Sharp and heavy. I could smell wolves. Many wolves. My chest tightened, but I did not feel afraid. I could feel their power, and it made my own pulse faster. Ahead, the ruins appeared. Stone walls broken and blackened from fire. Smoke had long disappeared, but the smell of burnt wood and ash still lingered. I stopped for a moment, trying to calm myself. My legs were tense, ready to run or fight. Then I saw them. Shadows moving among the ruins. People, but not normal people. Wolves. I froze. My heart jumped. One figure stepped forward; a man. Tall, dark hair, silver eyes. Something about him stopped me in my tracks. I knew him, though I had never met him before. My chest tightened, and I felt my wolf stir. He stared at me. His eyes locked on mine, and for a moment, I could not move. His wolf whispered. Mate. Mate. The word rang in my mind. My stomach dropped. How could it be? I had a mate? “I am Lyra Wynn,” I said, my voice trembling but clear. “I… I came to find answers. I mean no harm.” The air shifted. One of them stepped closer. The man’s hair was dark and messy. His silver eyes locked on mine. Another figure appeared. Blond hair, tall and wide shoulders. His eyes were soft but alert. Two more appeared behind them. One was a woman with gray eyes and black hair cut short. The other a man with brown hair. I counted four now. I took a step forward, my hands open. I could feel the energy in the air, heavy and alive. Their wolves were strong. I could sense it. And they could sense me too. I had never felt anything like this before. The silver-eyed man took a step closer. “Stay where you are,” he said. His voice was low but firm. “Who sent you?” “No one,” I said quickly. “I came on my own. I do not know why I am here. Something… pulled me.” He tilted his head, studying me. His eyes narrowed. “Something pulled you? What do you mean?” “I… I do not know,” I admitted. “I have dreams. Strange dreams. I see this place. I see you. I see fire and wolves. I see men. I feel… something inside me. I cannot explain it. But I think it is why I am here.” The silver-eyed man stepped closer again. I felt my wolf stir. The energy between us was sudden and strong. My chest felt hot, and my hands shook. I did not understand it, but I could not move away. “You are not like other wolves,” the woman with gray eyes said. Her voice was quiet but sharp. “Your energy… it is different. Dangerous. Strong.” “I do not want to fight,” I said. My voice was firmer now. “I want to know. I want to understand.” The man with silver eyes looked at me longer than I expected. Then he finally spoke. “You should not be here. Not alone. This place… it is dangerous. You are not fit to be here.” “I am ready and I can take care of myself,” I said. “I have to know who I am. I cannot turn back now.” He seemed to study me for a long moment. Then he nodded once. “Very well,” he said. “Stay with us. We will not let anything harm you. But we need to understand who you are first.” I swallowed. My throat was dry. “I… I remember nothing. Not before my parents found me. But I feel like I am… someone else. Someone who was here before. I have dreams. I see fire, blood, wolves, and you. I feel… connected to this place.” The silver-eyed man looked at me, then signaled to the others. “Take her to Elder Rowan. He will know.” I followed them through the ruins to a small building that was stronger than the rest. Stone walls and a large wooden door. Inside, the air smelled of old scrolls and herbs. Elder Rowan stood in the center. He was tall for his age and had gray hair and a lined face. His eyes were sharp and calm. “Bring her closer,” he said without looking up from the scroll in his hands. Kael, the silver-eyed man, stepped forward and motioned me to come. “This is Elder Rowan,” he said softly. “He watches over the pack. He will help us understand who you are.” I moved forward, my legs shaking. The energy in the room felt so strong. I could feel the wolves in the other men and women here. Kael’s presence was strongest. Blond-haired Joran watched quietly from the side. He was tall and broad. His eyes were calm, steady, and alert. The gray-eyed woman stood behind Kael. Her name, I learned quickly, was Mira. She did not smile or move much, but I could feel her strength. She looked at me with a hidden warmth. Another woman stepped forward. Red hair and silver eyes. Talia, Kael said. She kept her eyes on me like she was ready for anything. The man with brown hair, gentle and quiet, stepped closer. “I am Eli,” he said softly. “I help heal the pack. I can help you too.” Elder Rowan finally looked up. His eyes settled on me, and I felt something I could not name. A calm recognition. Then his gaze dropped to my shoulders. A faint mark glowed there, silver and crescent-shaped. His lips parted. “It cannot be,” he whispered. “The mark… it is hers.” “Hers?” Kael asked. His voice was low and tense. Elder Rowan nodded. “Yes. This is the mark of the Luna of Silvercrest pack. Aria. She survived? Well it is possible. But I think she was reborn. Half of her soul remained hidden until now. Lyra… this is Aria. She is alive.” I felt my knees go weak. My hands clutched my cloak. “Aria…?” I whispered. “I… I do not remember her. I do not remember anything.” Elder Rowan looked at me with calm eyes. “You will remember. In time. But your power is strong. Your bond with Kael… it is still alive. You must trust them. The pack. Kael. Joran. Mira. Talia. Eli. All of us. We will help you.” I swallowed hard. My chest was tight. Kael stepped closer and placed a hand near mine, careful, almost as if testing me. I could feel the pull inside me grow stronger, a thread tying me to him. “Rest for now,” Kael said. “You need your strength. We will answer your questions soon. You are safe here, Lyra.” I nodded, my wolf restless but calmer now. I looked at the pack members around me again. Mira’s gray eyes were sharp and steady. Talia’s red hair burned in the firelight. Joran’s calm honey brown eyes watched everything quietly. Eli’s gentle brown eyes met mine briefly. Elder Rowan studied me carefully. All of them were strong, alert, and aware. I could feel it. I wanted answers. I wanted everything. I wanted to remember. But I stayed where I was. My legs shook, my heart pounded, and my chest burned with the energy inside me. I could feel Kael’s presence near me. His wolf brushed against mine without him moving, and the pull inside me twisted tighter. But for the first time in my life, I did not feel alone or different. I had arrived at the place I was meant to be. And I would face whatever came next.
