I realized it was the Queen that yelled my name.
"Yes my Queen?" I replied quickly.
"What are you thinking about?? You were lost in there for a moment?? Is what I am saying boring you out??" She slitted her yellow eyes at me, I could feel the anger brewing within.
I look to Odessa for help.
"Idiot." She mouthed at me instead.
"Never, my Queen." I lowered my head a bit, " I was just thinking of where we'd get humans. I'm so excited to partake in this competition."
The hall is so silent you could hear a bubble pop.
"Who said anything about Competition??" Her voice rang, it's pitch still resounding in my head.
Oh crap.. I just escalated things further.
She swims closer, I could feel her eyes on me.
"But that's a brilliant idea. It wouldn't be a competition though, it'll be a bet. Anyone who can bring me the most humans or a very handsome/ beautiful one wins the bet. We would have three winners." She announces, her voice left my head already.
"The three winners get a position in the palace, five boxes of valuable treasures and a wish to be granted."
Odessa glances at me, "This is so gonna be fun!!"
"Get out of my head." I yell at her.
"Any conditions my queen?"
"You'll have four months to win the bet, and the so-called humans must have two visible moles. It is mandatory that everyone merfolk above 130 years and below 300 years old must participate. Failure to participate is instant Death. May the best Merfolk win!"
"Oh Aradia f'king sake Nixie.... That was genius of you!!"
"I am not exactly proud of that Odessa, just shut up and let's get something to eat." I say tiredly, suddenly feeling all exhausted.
Odessa hooks her arm in mine, we're going to do this right??"
"Nahh..... I'll pass on this."
"What?? You heard the queen all merfolks must participate!"
"We were both in the hall together, no need repeating what she said."
"You're 200 years old, very compulsory you join."
"I have no time to do that."
"Come on Nixie, this is the moment we've been waiting for.."
I fixed her a stare, wondering where she is getting at.
"Dad...." She exhale, "I'm talking about Dad. This is the only way to help him."
"We can think of other ways."
",This is for our Family, Nixie, the Syrinka Family."
"So??"
"Can you just be unselfish for once and think about those around you??"
I glare at her, is she trying to insinuate I am selfish. Geezz..... I'm the most selfless person in that family after Dad!!
"Don't you try pulling that card on me Odessa, you'll only get me angry further." I snap my arm from her, swimming away fast.
"I'm sorry Nix, I just miss dad so much.." she cried but that didn't stop me.
"I'm not interested in the game Dessa." I send her a reply from my mind.
"But we have to do it.... Who knows, if we go go to the land you might see Nash..."
Okay, it's really selfless of me, because his name made me stop and all the anger in me drained out instantly.
Okay, maybe I'm selfish but I have a right to happiness, yeah??
"Fine.... I'll participate if you promise we'll find Nash together."
Dessa was by my side the next second.
"I promise..."
"Finee..."
"Thank you so much Nix!!" She pulls me into a hug, "Thank you. When should we head out?? Today?? Let's go today. I have been up there a few times so I can help find our way around." She blabbers.
"You do know the kind of humans the Queen likes, don't you??"
"Yeah.. sure, handsome, fair, sporty waves, tall, wh..."
"Shut upp Dessa, I asked if you know, I didn't ask you to list it out." I shun her.
"Why do you think she gave us four months?? Is that too much for the task??"
"Obviously, she wants us to take our time and not everyone has visible moles on their body, so think!!"

"Do you think we can pull this off and save Dad?" Dessa asks Nixie as they both swam to the surface carrying a seashell full of pearls that Dessa had said would help them survive on the land..
"We wouldn't be a Syrinka if we don't." Nixie snorts, grabbing her sister's hand as they both burst out to the surface.
"Which country is near here??" Nixie asks. Everything feels so new to her. She has never been to the surface before, not to talk of land.
"No country. It'd take us two days to reach either Florida, California, and three days to Sweden. I am not entirely sure of Chicago and New York."
"Where do you do think Nash would be??"
"It is a big world out there, so I don't know but I'm sure we will find him."
"I hope so..."
"What about we go to Korea, I hear they have a nice island, Jeju, I think." Odessa suggests, hoping her sister buys the idea. She really needs to go to Korea. The game is the second thing on her mind now. She needs to attend to the first.
"Isn't that far??"
"It is but a lot of mer folks are known to go there for it's serenity and all." Odessa shrugs.
Although merfolks really go there but according to the information Odessa had gotten, Nash is somewhere in New York, not Korea.
" You think Nash might have gone to Korea??" Nix asks, raising an eyebrow in doubt.
"Who knows??" Odessa gives a half shrug, " There's always one way to find out."
"Fine..." Nixie agrees hesitantly.
"Let's head north then."
"Omg!" Nix exclaims, Dessa stared at her with fear filled eyes.
" What are we going to do?" Dessa panics,
"Swim back into the ocean for a cave??!" Nos suggested.
Dessa dives into the water and comes right back up. " We won't make it anywhere... There are fishes everywhere, running for safety.."
" The storm is really coming fast, we need to do something fast!!"
"Shark!!!!!" Dessa screams in fear, sighting the mammal about 15 feet from them.
Nix grabs hold of Dessa hand, " let's just swim away!" Nix yells to be heard above the storm gathering around.
The ocean began moving in waves, restless. It became turbulent.
Odessa grabs old of Nixie's hand, " Whatever happens please don't let go of me." She begged.
Nix nods holding on too night that that was the last thing both siblings saw a huge wave knocked them out of their breath and unconscious.
