Octavius's POV The stench of blood and illness still clung in the air, not departing with the soul of the child. My gaze fell on her mother, whispers and coos came through her broken voice as she tried rousing her daughter, but it was no use. Everyone present, including the soldier who had recently rushed in to join us, knew. Killing a child wasn't on your list this year, was it? Ragnar snickered at me as something like anguish pulled at our hearts, Do you feel it too? I do, I couldn't lie to him, even if I lied to the world. I felt it. Beneath my stiffness as I stood at the doorway with an unblinking gaze, there was a gnawing feeling eating at my insides, and my dragon experienced it too. I half waited for her to shout. To scream and come at me, clawing at my neck to get back at me
