“I’m Rebecca Bennett, Senior Director. I’ll be conducting your interview today.”
Seraphina rose to her feet and extended her hand with a warm, confident smile. “Good morning, Ms. Bennett. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“Likewise.” Rebecca returned the handshake before gesturing toward the corridor. “Right this way.”
Seraphina followed Rebecca down a quiet corridor lined with sleek corporate accolades and project campaign stills. The pristine environment signaled high expectations and meticulous standards.
Rebecca led her into a sunlit conference room and gestured toward a chair. “Please, have a seat.”
Seraphina settled into the chair opposite her, placing her portfolio neatly on the table.
Rebecca glanced at her tablet before raising her eyes to meet Seraphina’s. “So, Seraphina, tell me a little about yourself.”
It was a standard opening question, but Seraphina had no intention of giving a standard answer. Although she had rehearsed her response countless times, she delivered it with natural confidence and warmth.
“I’m a communications strategist who specializes in turning complex organizational changes into clear, compelling narratives. What draws me to corporate communications is the way it brings together strategic thinking, crisis management, and brand identity.”
Rebecca studied her for a moment, giving a slight nod. “And why have you chosen Vance Group specifically?”
“Vance Group has managed to expand aggressively into global markets without compromising its core brand identity,” Seraphina replied without hesitation. “I want to be part of the team that protects that reputation while helping shape how the company evolves as it continues to grow.”
The interview flowed smoothly from that point onward. Seraphina handled questions about crisis management, interdepartmental conflicts, and high-stakes client relations with well-structured, articulate responses, drawing confidently on her previous experience.
By the time Rebecca closed the file on her tablet, Seraphina had all but forgotten the irritating encounter in the elevator.
“You’re exceptionally well-prepared, Ms. Vance,” Rebecca remarked, her tone carrying a note of genuine approval.
Seraphina gave a modest smile. “I prefer to leave as little as possible to chance.”
“Clearly,” Rebecca replied with an approving nod. “You can expect to hear from us shortly.”
Seraphina gathered her belongings and rose to her feet. “Thank you for your time, Ms. Bennett. I truly appreciate the opportunity.”
Leaving the conference room, Seraphina felt a weight lift from her shoulders as the morning’s chaos finally began to fade. With her portfolio tucked beneath her arm, she headed back toward the elevators.
For a fleeting moment, she found herself wondering whether the infuriating stranger would be inside.
It was empty.
Seraphina shook her head, a faint smile tugging at her lips as she caught herself. Why on earth did she care? She had a career to build, a job offer to secure, and absolutely no time to waste thinking about an arrogant stranger in an expensive suit.
At least, that was what she told herself as the elevator doors slid shut.
