My heart raced, pounding against my chest as I flashed my gaze in search of something to protect myself with. When I raised my head, they were gone. I meant the red eyes, they were nowhere to be found. I felt my heavy footsteps taking me to my truck and in the next minute, I was inside my old truck, head resting on the steering wheel. My eyelids rested and a long sigh left my mouth.
" Where would you go? You are being hunted already," I muttered aloud, my voice shaky and cracky. I sniffed and turned on the ignition.
I was back at my home and everyone seemed to have gone to bed as if nothing happened. I entered my room for the last time and saw my bag already packed and placed on the bed. My eyes burned. They couldn't wait to get rid of me.
My eyes landed on the note by the window and without hesitation, I went to it and grabbed it. Slowly unfolding it, my eyes lit at the first word.
" Larissa, the girl with the pretty eyes and hair. My childhood friend and lover. I've waited for this day for so long. Standing by the side and watching you have your first reveal was such a disgrace. I thought I loved you until you turned out to be one of them. A rare one. As if that wasn't upsetting enough, you turned out to be my mate. How could the moon goddess mate me with a mutant? Was she trying to curse me? I knew I said I would take you in but I never meant it. We cannot be together. I hate mutants and won't hesitate to kill a wandering one that comes my way, including you. I would advise you to leave and find a family soon. I do not want to come across you or you will be dead at first glance. With these written words, sealed by my blood, I Leo, hereby reject you Larissa as my fated mate. Nothing in this world shall bind us together. I reject you! I reject you!! I reject you, Larissa!!!,"
Unshed tears waterproofed my vision, blurring the remaining words in the paper and as if my suffering wasn't enough for the night, I felt something snap inside of me. The paper fell from my hand and my knees hit the floor, my head spun and my back rested on the floor with my blurry gaze fixed on the ceilings, wheezing, wincing, and gasping for air. My world spun and kept spinning until I was out of breath and welcomed into the embrace of darkness.
I don't know how much time has passed but it's midday and in my truck in the middle of nowhere. I hit my head with my palm and looked at myself with a mirror. I gasped at what I saw.. my eyes had turned ember and my hair had a patch of red and white at the tip.
" No," I said aloud and quickly rambled through my bag, and finally I found it. A black hoodie. I drove to the store and bought a black nose mask, brown contact lenses, and a die. After dying my hair and wearing my lenses, I went in search of Leo. How could I leave without confronting him? How could I leave without making him feel the pain that I felt with his betrayal and rejection? As expected, I found him where I expected him to be. In the pack's hunting lodge, organizing a pack hunt and run. I opened the car door and immediately I stepped down, his eyes turned to me and for a minute, I almost forgot the reason why I came to him. I shook my head and let out a short sigh before approaching where he stood.
" What are you doing here?" Came his angry tone, his lips curved in disdain. I cannot believe the man who promised me the whole world and whispered things into my can talk to me in this manner.
" I came for you. We should talk," I answered, my voice low but firm.
" There is nothing to talk about Larissa, I rejected you." He answered, my face wrinkled at the effect of an invisible knife piercing in my heart.
I gulped slowly and reached for my pant pocket, pulling out his rejection letter.
" I got your letter," I said, raising it for everyone to see before c*****g my head to the side, my lips curved In a smirk.
" You sent a letter because you couldn't reject me to my face. YOU DON'T HAVE THE BALLS!" I said out loud, enough for everyone to hear and my lips spread at the ugly expression on his face when he heard side remarks from his pack members.
He rushed forward and before I knew it, he grabbed my neck and I felt the air leaving my lungs at a fast rate. His hot heavy breath blew on my face.
" I will reject you any way I deem fit and appropriate. I will reject you a thousand times because you don't deserve to be my Luna. You are just a miserable mutant. An impure blood who just wants to fit into the werewolf world. There is no place for you here. No place for you in my life." My eyes brimmed with tears as his words fell into my ears. I didn't know if the tears were a result of his words or the impact of his grip on my neck.
" I told you to stay away or I will sever your head from your neck with my claws," his voice thundered and I whimpered as his claws dug into my neck one after the other, tormenting me.
I fell to the ground and gasped for air when he finally let go of his grip on my neck. I swore I would have died if he held on a little longer.
I raised my head and saw him licking the blood from his claws as a girl who was in shorts and bra walked up to him and wrapped her arms on his shoulders.
" Is she the one you were talking about last night?" She asked, her voice cracky with a sinister smile on her lips. Whatever that talked about, I didn't want to know. It wasn't going to be good anyway. She was the woman in his bed last night. I will never forget her face.
I forced myself to my feet and rushed towards her, scratching her face with my claws that elongated from nowhere, a scream left her lungs and I was sent flying with a punch in my stomach until I landed deep inside the wood, wrinkling and rolling and fighting for my life.
I shut my eyes, trying to get rid of the pain when I heard a masculine voice in my head.
" Come, come, he will kill you. "
I forcefully opened my eyes and looked to my left, seven feet away from me stood a figure in a black cloak, standing behind a tree, his eyes green as the forest leaves.
I turned my head and saw a pack of wolves running in my direction, led by Leo in his human form. He said in his letter that he would kill me. He said we were enemies and that he hated mutants but there was a mutant in his bed last night. Is he being unfair to me or has someone turned his face against me? Did he really consider me his enemy?
" Come, girl. If you don't, I won't be able to protect you and you will die," the voice came again, this time around it was filled with desperation, or could it be a concern? I turned my head and I met the green eyes. They have a glow in them, differentiating them from the leaves. Something in them calls out to me. Something in them pulls me to them but I would rather die in the hands of the man I've loved since my childhood and let him live with the guilt than run away for life like a coward. A life that I don't know if it would get easier.
I forced myself up, blood dripping from my mouth, and shook my head at him. I closed my eyes, exhaling, and looked in his direction but he was no longer there. It was as if I hallucinated him.
I gulped and warm tears streamed down my face and I felt stings from the cuts inflicted on my face by the grasses.
Surrounded by packs of wolves, with the man I've loved all my life standing in front of me, ready to finish me. He radiates danger, death oozes from his breath but a part of me wondered if he has the heart to do it. Can he bear to kill me?
" Lena is my favorite," he breathed, his words and breath hot like lava.
" Hurting her is hurting me," he added, taking another step closer to me and I just stood there like a statue, my gaze lost in his deep blue eyes that have drowned me over and over again like the ocean.
His hands reached for my face, caressing my cheeks, and without blinking, like a stream, I felt them flowing freely from my eyes. His breath became heavy, it was the only thing I could hear as his hands tightened around my cheeks, holding my head still and firm. My lips parted, wanting to say something, but a paralyzing pain shot through my neck down to my feet as I heard my neck snap. Like a loose rope, I slouched to the ground, hitting a log. My eyes wide opened, his eyes were the last thing I saw. Despite my eyes being opened, all I could see was darkness. A pitch darkness with nowhere to escape to.
