I waited until 6 am to head down to the basement. I knew that Raven must be making breakfast by now and wouldn't be there, so she wouldn't see me. I quietly stepped out of my room and made my way down to the ground floor without bumping into anyone. Unfortunately, at the moment that I am about to reach for the handle on the basement door, I hear the most annoying person in the world ( Tina) clear her throat behind me.

"What are you doing?" she asks, annoyed as she taps her foot on the floor awaiting an explanation.

"I'm looking for an Omega to help me with something and was looking around for Ms. Louis" I lie.

I can see in her eyes that I haven't fooled her one bit, but surprisingly, she smiles at me.

"Well, I'm glad you're here, brother. Turns out the pack w***e hasn't woken up yet to start her chores and mother told me to come and teach her a lesson. Now that you're here, you can help me." I could tell she was testing me. f**k!

"Alright, let's go" I say, gritting my teeth. I knew it would be worse for Raven if I didn't go in with Tina.

After we make our way down to the basement, I can see Ravens body curled up under rags that she has been using to keep herself warm. I was right to think that no one would provide her with a blanket. The other omegas were all provided with basic necessities and properly compensated for their work. I have never been able to understand why Raven is treated so differently.

"Wake Up" I say to her, but she doesn't hear me. She begins to turn in her sleep and I can tell she is having a nightmare. " Wake UP'' I repeat louder this time.

"WAKE UP YOU w***e!" Tina shouts at her but nothing. I am about to reach out to her when Tina stops me. " Stop, if waking her up the nice way isn't going to work then maybe a splash of acid will do the trick and it will ensure she never neglects her duties again." My ears can't believe what they are hearing "acid?" I ask her as a stare at her. "are you crazy, why would you do that?"

She has a triumphant smile on her face, "Because father already told me i could next time this b***h deserves to be punished. Wait here, I'm going to go get it. You're not going to try and protect her are you?" She asks as she starts to head towards the stairs.

''I have better things to do with my time", I state as I give her a cold expression, trying not to show how worried I truly am for Raven. "Wake Up!" I try again. "Wake Up, Wake Up you worthless b***h!" she still isn't waking up. In a panic, I kick Raven on her side.

Luckily, that seems to do the trick. She gasps and curls herself into a ball to avoid more hits.

" Get your worthless ass upstairs so you can help the rest of the omegas. Who the hell do you think you are?" I shout at her cruelly, hoping to convince Tina that I don't care about Raven at all.

She quickly sits up from the thin mattress pad she calls a bed and I can tell she is scared. She looks up at me like she is about to cry and, for a second, I swear that I see her eyes flash brightly for a second. However, when I look again, her eyes are completely normal. Maybe I'm just seeing things as I haven't slept all night. I don't like this. Something about her is off Ryder growls in my head and I can't help but to agree. I had never seen anything like that before.

I turn around to head back up the stairs where Tina has been waiting for me.

"Don't think this is over big brother, I can see the way you look at that slut and I know that you have feelings for her. I will have her killed before she is ever made luna of the biggest pack in the country. Mark my words." She threatens as she begins to walk away.

I know how cruel Tina can be and all I can do is pray that she doesn't do anything bad to Tina before she is able to leave.

Her 18th birthday has to be coming up soon and I have already decided that on that day, I will give Raven some money so she can leave this place for good and hopefully live her life in peace away from this hell. Even if she does turn out to be my mate after all.

As I walk away, heading towards my room, I bump into Ms. Louis. "Ms. Louis, have blankets delivered to Raven later on as it is getting cold. I expect your full discretion in this matter. Do you understand what I am saying?" a frown forms on her face and I can see sadness in her eyes. "I am sorry, young alpha, but I am not allowed to do that. Your father has prohibited me from providing Raven with anything at all to keep warm and if I disobey him, she is the one who is going to get hurt in the long run."

"I understand. Thank you." I reply frustrated. There was nothing I can do as I don't want her to get hurt any further.

"Young alpha, perhaps maybe you could help Raven with something else", She whispers quietly, making sure that no one hears her.

"Raven has been punished again today and has had her daily meal taken away once more. She is starting to grow weak from lack of food. Maybe there is something you can do? I cannot give her anything to eat as your father has threatened to have me banned from the pack."

"Will do" I reassure her and continue to make my way towards my room and start to come up with a plan to get food for Raven later on. There is no one in this pack I can trust, so it seems, I'm going to have to do it myself.
