We rode his car. Thankfully he didn't have many questions. We just stayed quiet and pretty much awkward.
I'm actually surprised that he follows my instructions and doesn't even doubt. I feel good knowing someone trusts me and my decisions.
We arrive at his place. It was a small but pretty spacious apartment unit. It had a great city and sea view too. It didn't have much furniture or decorations. It was perfectly minimalistic.
"I'm really sorry for causing you this much nuisance. It's just that I have no choice. I'll explain when the time is right." I sigh.
"Don't worry. Little Lily here is not a nuisance of any sort to me. In fact I'll be happy to have some company here. My neice often visits too. They'll make good company." He smiles warmly.
"I can probably never repay you for this. Thank you."
"No problems. Don't worry. You don't have to repay me or explain yourself. Just make sure you are safe and that you'll visit from time to time."
I take my leave. He offered me a ride but I can't afford bothering him and even potentially putting him in danger.
I return to the shop. It was still covered in police tape. I tiptoe inside and looked at each and every corner.
The police sure did get all our stuff. They'll soon find my dna, but that's going to be irrelevant since a lot of people go here.
I go and try to get as much as I can. No more money left, just some clothes all over the floor. Furniture scattered all over and it sure was a wreck.
Thankfully as I checked the secret compartment I made in the bathroom, it was untouched.
I hid all my stuff there, my money, the phones I snatched after I made sure they are hard to track. The vitamins anf my g*n were also there along with the burner phone I had.
I got them all out and put them in a bag along with my clothes and Lily's. I dropped off Lily's clothes and hid mine somewhere.
I also threw the phones at the ocean. Except for the burner phone.
Now all that's left is for me to go save my roomates from prison. But I don't know how.
I then remember the wallet of the police who keeps chasing me. Maybe I could call him and figure out a way to get my friends out of the station.
It was already 9 in the evening. I find some public telephone booth to call that police.
"Senior Inspector Park of Busan Police Station speaking. How may I help?"
I was silent after that. It just seems like I didn't know what to say. So I just breathe. heavily.
"You're that tall karate lady who saved me aren't you?" He sarcasticly asks.
"How did you know?" I ask him in a flat tone.
"Hmm, just a lucky guess. Why'd you call me by the way? You want to return my wallet?" He laughs.
In the background I can hear his fellow policemen ask who I am.
"Not really that. But can you meet me at the dock? I'll return the wallet plus turn myself in." I try to convince him.
"Why not just come here at the station?"
"Uh. Why not take the credit for yourself?"
He took a moment of pause.
"Okay I'll be there."
"Come alone. Still at the dock where you drowned."
"Excuse me I did no-"
I drop the telephone and wait for him at the dock after leaving my bag at the house but still bringing my g*n.
It was cold I admit. My jacket wasn't thick enough. I had to wait a long time there.
I stood there for quite some time. Looking at the stars and the boats as they pass by.
"Sorry to make you wait." I turn my back to see him in this turtleneck and this long trench coat.
I'd like to borrow that really. But I try my best to make it seem like I don't mind the cold.
I stretch out my hand to him the wallet. He was about to take it when I folded it back to myself.
"Tell me what I ask about first."
He sighed and nodded.
"What do you want to know?"
"Why did you arrest them?"
"Illegal migration. They'll get deported and we're still figuring what's next. Nothing you can do about that."
"Are you going to arrest me for that too?"
"Yes. Unless you escape me and go hide for a good ammount of time."
I hand him the wallet.
"Do me a favor first can you?"
"Let me hear it first."
"Just let me go. I promise I'll lay low."
"And what? Go against the law?"
"Do you not believe in giving back favors hun? I saved your life dummy"
"And gave me rib pain, and stole my wallet and made me run for like what? Two hours?"
"Still. All I want is freedom."
"No, you're going with me."
"Kill me first."
"and If I don't?"
"I will kill you then."
He sighed again.
"I'm not in the mood to fight. My rib hurts too much and it's so cold here. Are you not cold?"
"I'll take my leave then if you're finished talking."
"What? No. Let's go talk over some soup. I know a place where they sell fantastic soup."
I didn't reply. I didn't want to spend more time with him.
"Come on. I won't bother you anymore after this."
He looked so eager so I guess why not? I haven't had much food today either. If anyone tries to attack me there though, then it will serve as practice for combat.
We walk to this shop that looks like the usual Korean restaurant along the street. The beef stew there was truly amazing and he didn't even try to bother me as we ate.
Maybe he was just thankful for the life saving and the return of his beloved wallet.
