The sun was about to rise. I stood at the door and faced the tide. Cold wind brushed against my cheeks.
We had to move, so I grabbed the bag and the child too. I tried my best to not wake her up.
We left for the fields again. Trying to find whatever we can.
I had a cap on now, and I wrapped the kid in a blanket. The jacket proved to be warm, I'm worried about the little girl.
We got out of there soon, as the gentle morning sun greeted our faces. A couple minutes of walking later, we found a few more houses with people.
I hesitantly went to ask, knowing that I might bring bad happenings to them.
I approached the old looking wooden house, with windows still shut.
I inquired where the nearest Port or dock was. They told me to just follow the road and go ask the people I see.
I guess they thought of me as a tourist. I look quite different from them. They were so accomodating to us.
I soon left, as I know that the other guards are on my tail now.
Following the instructions and riding some vehicles, yes, I gave up stealing. We soon were near.
I was supposed to be happy, but I felt unsure and unsafe. I didn't know why.
As I step on forward, something just doesn't feel right.
Only then did I remember that they might be here. Guarding the place so that we can't get out.
I quickly turned aside to a corner. I had to hide. I felt defeated knowing that our chances of escaping are narrow. Every place of possible escape must be guarded.
But then something rang. The burner phone the doctor had given me. He surely gave me a lot of stuff.
I picked it up, still afraid. The kid was now awake, she looked at me. She was amticipating what was the call about.
"Liua?" Doctor Jung said in a whisper.
Soon he asked how I was, I reported my situation to him.
He was a bit concerned about the kid. Knowing that she needs my care and protection. But he says he trusts my choices anyway.
He then informed me that I am now in search, and right now the guards are being dispatched to get me.
He said I should leave while they haven't all arrived here in this country. He instructed me to go to Korea in a cargo boat for more safety.
So I did, I boarded a cargo boat to Korea as soon as I found one. It took some effort. And I knew I couldn't just ride it that easy, I had to sneak in with a big bulky bag and a toddler.
I was busy looking around the boat and the dock from a hidden spot. I don't want to risk anything yet. I found a container with little to no contents that was still open, I guess they still need to fill it up.
We went in and I sat the girl down as I rearranged the crates to hide ourselves. We hid under a big canvas sheet that we draped above the crates.
It was pretty hot and dark yet we had to endure it. Soon we heard people, a lot of people. I was shivering and my heart was pumping loudly since I thought we were going to get caught. But as they went in, we got shut in. Then there was silence. Only some rustles and some footsteps.
From the outside of the crate, I heard that they were illegal migrants. Or something like that. Well I guess we could just blend in.
As the boat started to leave, I felt so relieved. I would've just drove the boat by myself If I could but I'm not good at directions, especially while in water.
Soon I peeled away the sheet of canvas. And they were all shocked with me.
I told them and I explained that we were the same. That I was an illegal migrant too.
They accepted us and we even shared each other's stories. Of course I had to fake mine. I wasn't gonna risk revealing my identity.
The trip went by slowly, they all questioned who the child was. I just replied that she takes up after her father.
They all were mostly asleep in the trip, yet I was awake. We also shared some food.
It was a long travel. Good thing the waves were mostly calm waves so we didn't get seasick.
I didn't sleep, but the child was dozing off on my shoulders most of the ride.
We soon got dropped off after getting tossed around the container as it got lifted by heavy Machinery.
We all got out feeling shaked by the cold air. It's still dark yet I don't know what time it is.
Most of the women who I was with would end up working in Busan or other places. I wasn't still familiar with the place so I just followed them.
From what I heard in their conversation, they would work at a massage parlor. I didn't like it though, and I felt that I wasn't ready for that.
They were kind enough to offer me other jobs though. I respect them for that. They seem like nice people.
I ended up being a nail tech as they call it. They told me they'd teach me in exchange that I would do their nails. I mean it's better than nothing. At least I'd have a source of income. After all, I have a kid to feed.
We arrived to a shop, just near the sea. It was near the dock where the ladies were scaling and gutting some fish or making some seafood delicacies. I wonder if I could work with them too.
The shop's inside was all pink with a lot of curtains made of streamers or some crystals.
We settled down into a room. It was cramped but it's better than the streets. All I'm worried about is this child which name I don't even know.
