After an hour, everybody was in bed, but Will didn’t press his body against Martha’s back as before. She pretended to be asleep because she wanted to test Will. The pressure she felt in her stomach betrayed her increasing tension.
The waiting was palpable. Finally, Will moved slowly, but Martha still sensed the bed shift as he got up. He stood next to the bed for a while, and Martha was sure that he was checking to see if she was asleep yet. Then his steps died away towards the bedroom.
At first, excited voices came from inside then Martha could hear deeper sighs. After small noises of touching, the strident sounds of skin and the smacking of lips filled the air.
