Chapter 2

1656 Words
Nicolas POV What a bother this is. The snowstorm coming out of nowhere was bad enough, but this, a stranger in my house, and if it's a result of what I'm thinking, then it's going to be even worse. Anais was still pouting in the corner. I swear, this girl never listens to me. "Okay you can stay up a little longer but go wait in your room." She leaped with excitement. "Merci papa.” She said as she ran to her room. “She's very cute.” Brianna said with a light smile on her face. “So, how are we going to solve this predicament? I booked a pool house and paid for it.” She continued. “Let me make a quick phone call.” I knew I had to call my brother, that good-for-nothing could be the only one responsible for this. “Have a seat, Miss Rawlings.” “Sure, thank you.” I stepped away and brought out my phone.” “Adrien, what did you do?” “What are you talking about, big bro?” I could clearly hear the music in the background of the club he was in. “My pool house! Why is there a Brianna Rawlings here saying she booked my pool house?” Adrien has always been nothing but trouble. “Oh, about that, umm… the line is breaking, I can't hear you.” He was clearly lying. “Did you take her money?” “You're breaking… talk to you later.” He cut the call, and I could punch him if he were here right now. I returned to Brianna only to see that Anais had returned. Brianna seemed to be helping her wear her socks the right way. Anais is obviously chattering nonstop to Brianna. Bethany was a peculiar-looking girl; she had shiny blonde hair that flowed all the way to her waist, and she had ocean-blue eyes. She was at least 5ft 5 and quite petite in body size. “Oh, you’re back.” Brianna looked in my direction. “Look, Papa Bri helped me with my stockings.” Anais said, running in my direction. “They look perfect darling.” I patted her head before gesturing for Brianna to take a walk with me. She stood up from the couch and followed me towards the door. Anais stayed behind on the couch. “Your daughter is so cute.” Her smile was even wider than last time. “Thank you… so uh my brother put up the pool house for rent without my permission and-” She cut me off. “Oh that’s a bummer, but as you can see I really need a place to stay.” “Don’t worry, you will get a full refund it’s-” She cut me of again “It’s not just that. I don’t see how I can get any lodging this evening… with the snow storm and all.” “If you’d let me finish Miss Rawlings, I was saying that a few days ago there was an incident in the pool house, an electrical fire, it damaged the roof. It’s not suitable for anyone to live in.” Her face dropped and I honestly felt bad for her because this must’ve ruined the holiday she planned on having. “Oh okay. I should get going then.” She grabbed her luggage which was set by the door. “In this storm? Are you kidding.” I asked because it clearly seemed like going out there was a death sentence. “I don’t really have a choice now, thanks for accommodating me so far Mr. Geralt.” She walked past me before I could say another word and opened the door. A gust of wind blew inside as Brianna opened the door, the snow had grown to such level that you could barely even step over it “Ahh papa, close the door.” Anais shouted as the continuous wind kept blowing inside even Brianna knew that she couldn’t take a step outside. I held her back and used my body to push the door close, it was difficult but i closed it. Brianna’s face was blank and expressionless, She just stood there with her luggage like she had seen a ghost. “Miss Rawlings. Miss-” “Brianna is fine.’ She finally snapped out of her thoughts. “Brianna, you will have to stay here tonight. If I send you out there then I’m no better than the serial killer you suspected me to be.” I said and a little smile appeared on her face. “But I really don’t want to bother you. I mean it’s Christmas Eve and you probably just want to spend it with your wife and daughter.” “I don’t have a wife.” Her cheeks instantly became red at my words… is she excited that I didn’t have a wife. Well she is very horrible at hiding her emotions. “Oh…sorry I just assumed.” She clearly tried to hide her smile. “Well I insist you stay here tonight. If the storm reduces tomorrow you can go then.” She still looked very hesitant. Anais, who had been listening to our conversation, jumped in and held Brianna’s hand. “Pleaseeee Bri.” Anais made a kitten look, no one could say no to her. “Okay then.” Brianna crouched down to Anais’s height and cupped her cheeks. “But only because you asked me to.” I went beside her and grabbed her luggage. “I’ll show you up to your room.” I gestured to her that she follow me upstairs. I took her to the first floor and opened the door to the guest room. “Here, there is hot water if you want to shower.” I said placing her luggage beside the bed. “It’s perfect. Thank you very much, Mr. Geralt.” “Nicolas, or Nick is just fine.” “Okay then thanks Nick.” She seemed to be avoiding eye contact instantly. “I’m going to whip some dinner up, you can freshen up and come down stairs when you’re done.” “Sure.” Brianna said and I walked out of the room. I returned to the kitchen and resumed the cooking I was doing before any of this started but instead now I was cooking for two. I was finally able to put Anais back to bed and could only hope that she doesn't walk back out. It had been over twenty minutes since I spoke to Brianna and I was starting to wonder what was taking her so long so I went back upstairs and placed a knock on the door. “Brianna, do you need anything?” “Yes Mr. Geralt- Uh I mean Nick. Can you please come in here?” I was confused but I stepped in still. She wasn’t in the room so I walked towards the bathroom door. “I’m in the bathroom.” Yep I was right “Can you help me with the door I’ve been trying for a while now I just can’t get a hang of it.” I couldn’t help but laugh a bit. “Okay I’ll open it now.” I said and twisted the door knob open. “Wait!” I stopped with the door half way open. “You’ll have to grab the towel on the chair first.” I almost had a heart attack at that moment, if I had been a second faster I could’ve opened the door to a naked Brianna. “I’m so sorry.” I walked over to the chair, grabbed the towel, returned to the door and stretched it out to her. She held my hand and collected the towel. “Um, so dinner is ready.” I said, trying to clear the awkwardness from the air. “I’ll be down in a moment.” She said and I returned downstairs. I couldn’t believe it but I was actually flushed, my hand was still wet from where she had held me. I set the table and in about five minutes she was down and seated. Her hair was still a little wet but she had it in a messy bun. She was dressed in a soft burgundy set, a slim-strapped camisole that hugged her lightly, trimmed with neat black edges. The matching shorts sat comfortably on her hips, the same deep red with a small black bow at the front and delicate black lining around the hems. She sat right across from me. “Hmm, that smells delicious.” She said as I placed the plate right in front of her. I placed mine too and got seated. “One thing I can promise you is that my cooking is always going to be top tier." “That’s very confident of you.” She looked at me and we both laughed a bit. “So tell me, Brianna, what brought you to Paris?” “Well, if I were to frankly speak, I would say an airplane.” She said right before bursting into laughter, I couldn’t help but laugh, that was a good one. “Sorry that was so improper of me.” Her laughter came to a halt. “I just wanted a change of scenery this Christmas, besides I just graduated recently, and I wanted to do something wild. Solo traveling seemed like the best fit.” “Oh wow, you just graduated. Congratulations. And how old might you be, Brianna Rawling.” “I’m 24.” she said in a subtle tone.” “Hmm.” “How old are you, Nicolas Geralt?” She asked as she took a bite from the food. “I’m 34.” Her eyes widened, and I watched as drops of water flowed from her hair down her jaw line.
