One More Second

Chapter two

Well after seeing such a situation Alicia began to cherish her life as I have mentioned in the last chapter. She decided to take part in sports and as she was busy at the field playing soccer with some of the boys she noticed Gift with an oxygen tank, well she didn't know what was wrong with him so she decided to take a break from the field and went on to ask him what was wrong with him and that when he told her that he had emphysema and he struggled to breathe. Well she was so heartbroken to hear that but she decided to keep him on the best page of life by telling him that she believes that those whom are sick will have the best life once they are reborn. He was so shocked to hear that she believes in such fairy tales as he do . They then began to chat for few moments and as they were busy chatting Pearl went to them and asked Gift if he was now cheering on him with the new girl and this made Gift laugh so bad which made him begin to cough. He then asked Pearl if he was jealous and Pearl told him was he was extremely jealous and he didn't want to lose his forever smile . Well these two were the best friend you could ever hope for, they were amazing believe me. Pearl then sat down near Alicia and told her that he was so damn tired and he just wanted to take a nap but he couldn't because he had to tell the younger kids some stories. Alicia told him that he had to think about himself first, so he decided to rest and go to the kids later on. So he left the two outside and went to his room to sleep . Just few moments as he was sleep he began to feel dizzy and he thought it was just a normal reaction to his new medication. He had lung cancer so he had a tumor on his lungs tht needed to be removed ASAP. He then got up abd went to have water in the bathroom and then he got in the shower still wearing his clothes because he was feeling hot. He then ended up sitting down in the shower unable to move, all he was able to do was to cry, he couldn't move because he no longer had the strength to do so. Many hours passed with him still in the shower and Alicia began to worry because he has promised to tell the kids some stories. She went to his room and luckily found it unlocked so she went in and heard the shower on so she sat on the bed and waited for him to come out, she waited for yet another hour but he didn't come out so she walked in the bathroom and found him down in the shower. She ran to help hip up and dragged him out . Thankfully she was still breathing but she was still scared. She rang the bell on his neck and the nurses came as quick as they could and found the two of them in the bathroom . Pearl was now in Alicia's lab and she was constantly crying. The nurses carried Pearl to his bed and Alicia was accompanied to her room . The nurses found out that Pearl had some complications breathing and they knew what the problem was but they had to speak to his parents first about the surgery. As for now, he was given his medication which he refused to take, he said he found it hard to swallow so the nurses left the medicine at his head board and left him to rest and that's when Alicia went to check on him. He was now awake, so Alicia asked him how he was feeling abd he told her that he was feeling a little bit better but he just couldn't take his medication. So she told him that she knew another way to help him take the medicine, she ran to the cafeteria and took two containers of yogurt and went back to Pearls room and as she got there she poured the pills Pearl had to take in one of the yogurt containers and mixed them well abd then began to feed him . This was the best sight to see believe me, as Pearl was done with the yogurt he asked Alicia to stay with him a bit longer so they got in bed and then they began to talk. Yep, they spoke about life, they spoke about how they found it unfair but yet they were thankful to experience the hardships of it because other people don't know. They then fell asleep but as they were sleeping Pearl woke up and just looked at the being sleeping next to him. She reminded him if the girl he always wished to be with. But his fate never assigned him to find love did it, he was now nineteen and he had already given up on love because he knew that he was going to die anyway so loving someone would mean that that person would suffer the pain of loosing him and he wasn't ready for that. He then noticed the tears flowing on Alicia's cheeks, she was actually crying in her sleep. He wiped the tears on her cheeks and gave her a peek on her lips. But to his surprise she woke up and asked him what he was doing and he told her that he was just trying to console her because she was crying in her her sleep. And she thanked him and hugged him and they fell asleep again. And as the following day came Alicia woke up and went to her room to get ready for the day, as she was about to go to the cafeteria one if the nurses called her and told her that she had a visitor at the dining room and when she went to check who it was she was shocked to see her parents along with Rose Well they have been gone for a long time so she has clearly missed them. She went on to hug them and then asked them why the sudden surprise and they told her that they just missed her so much and couldn't stand to bear the boredom so they decided to visit her. As they were busy chatting another family got in the room and greeted them They sat down and told one of the nurses that they were called regarding their son. And the nurse confirmed that indeed they called them regarding Pearl because he had to go through a surgery where by a tumor on his left lung had to be removed. Well his parents had no reason to resist because it was the only thing to be done so they asked to see their so so Pearl was called and as he came he went to his parents and his mother hugged him so tight and asked him to stay strong. He had to show the kids around him that there was always a second chance so that's why he had to always put up the positive look even when he wasn't okay. After few moments of talking the two families said bye to their kids and Pearl along with Alicia left the spot. They went to the cafeteria to have something to eat and as they were busy eating Pearl asked Alicia if she could do him a favor and it was the most painful thing to day no to. He asked her to be by his side so that he could have the strength to go to the surgery in a week . She then told him that she could act as his girlfriend if that is what it took for him to feel better and this really made his day. He was so scared but couldn't admit it. So she cheered him down a lot. As they were done eating they went to the cinema where they watched a horror movie And as the movie was going to an end Alicia fell asleep on Pearls shoulder. And for the first time, he felt the need to take care of someone. He knew that she also needed him as he needed her. And ever since that day they were officially dating. Yep it started off as a game but they realized that they cared for one another so much that they began to develop feelings for one another. And the first person to suspect that something was going on was Gift, well his best friend no longer had time for him. He was either on a tiny picnic with Alicia or busy teaching kids how to sing with Alicia. So one day at the cafeteria he ashed Pearl why he didn't tell him about his new relationship with Alicia abd Pearl told him that he didn't want to because there was no dating allowed at the place. The nurses didn't allow the kids to date because they knew exactly that cross infection might occur. Bit Gift clearly showed support towards the two abd promised to keep their relationship a secret. And on that exact same day, it was Pearls surgery day. He was impatient rather than scared and it's all thanks to Alicia. As they were all done eating he was called to a ward room where by he had to get ready for the surgery. It was to take place in about an hour so he just wore the clothes and then he was injected with a trip, or water supply and then Alicia went to stay with him so that they can push time. So as they were busy chatting Alicia told him that nothing would occur to him. He was just going to be fine and nothing was going to stop him from being as strong as he used to be. So as the time went on Alicia gave him a kiss and told him to keep her in his mind because she would also be keeping him in her mind. Abd after few moments doctors cane abd Alicia was asked to leave the room so she left and and Pearl was given a deep sleep injection and then as he fell to sleep the surgery began. It lasted for five whole hours and as it was done Pearl was left to rest. And he woke up after a week . And Alicia was the first person whom he saw as he woke up, she made sure to always visit him because she didn't want to miss the day he opened his eyes. He was so happy to see her by his side. And she was with him every step of the way untill he got back to his feet but she didn't tell her how bad her health was at that time. She was slowly dying and doctors told her that the cancer has spread to almost all the parts of her body and very soon she was going to say bye to her hair. Very soon, she was never expecting such a thing to happen at all. But what could she say, it was life. So the first day Pearl was able to go outside he was surprised by the kids he taught choir, they sang for him and he was so shocked to hear how beautiful they sang. He went on to embrace them one by one congratulating them in how amazing they sang. He told them that they were soon to be superstars. Well the nurses also organized a party for him, they bought him a very beautiful and big cake and the kids celebrated their big brothers win against surgery. It was the best day for everyone to see. Pearl couldn't believe that he has made it.
