Chapter Nineteen

531 Words
Penny and Chris were becoming closer, laughing and enjoying time together and with the family. Chris still hadn’t regained his memory, even with looking through pictures and videos every day. The Home Health agency sent a psychologist to examine him and work with him on his memory. Chris was able to answer everything technical, intellectual and all general knowledge questions, but could not remember anything about himself or his family or his career. The Psychologist encouraged the two, assuring them that his memory would return. Chris sighed heavily and looked down at his hands, feeling defeated. Penny kissed his forehead and caressed his back, telling him to have patience and trust in God. Christopher smiled and leaned his head on Penny’s waist as she held him lovingly in her arms. He wrapped his arms around her hips and told her that he was trying to, but it was frustrating not knowing everything about her and the kids. Joselyn, the therapist suggested he continue watching videos of the children and of their wedding, important events and such. “That and just spending time with them and doing his normal routine. Perhaps your friend could arrange for you to sit in the cockpit of a plane with him, go to places you routinely went with him,” she suggested. Christopher and Penny told Joselyn goodbye and thanked her for her recommendations. “Don’t fret, you two. You’ve already found the light of love that was hidden from you in darkness, you will find the light to it all soon. Just keep doing what you have been, and it may come back suddenly, or piece by piece. Trust God, it will happen,” Joselyn encouraged them as she was leaving. She gave them each a warm hug and smiled, having formed a bond with them. “I will be back next week, but if anything changes, please message or call. I want to know, okay?” She told them both. Chris sat in his wheelchair with his arm around Penny’s hips and her arm around his shoulders. He smiled up at her. “I may not remember who we were before, but I know that I am falling in love with you now, my darling wife,” Chris said, smiling at her. “If I could just get out of this chair and walk beside you, it would be so much better,” he told her apologetically meeting her eyes. “It will happen, just like your memory, Sweetheart. In the meantime, I am thankful to have you home and safe and with your family,” she told him. “Speaking of family, do we have other family members? Do I have siblings, are my parents still alive?” Christopher asked, curious. “We have lots of family! Yes, both our parents are living, and we both have brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. I think we should plan a big cookout and have them all up this Saturday. Maybe that will spark your memories,” Penny suggested. “I’ll explain the situation so they will understand first. Maybe we should talk to the kids about it too,” she added.
