Chapter Eleven

697 Words
Josie was getting worried about Chris’s memory returning if she didn’t get him away from the staff at the hospital. He had been getting rehab in his bed in an attempt to regain feeling and mobility in his legs, but they continued to lay flaccid, dependent on others to move them. Chris had begun asking a lot of questions about himself and their lives, and Josie was getting nervous. She continued to hide his billfold from him, lying and saying it was stolen when he fell. Darlene heard the lie that Josie told, and her suspicions about the woman increased. She wondered if she was not Chris’s wife, and she was hiding his identity from him, what was her motive? Rachel and Darlene met with Jeffrey at lunch and talked about their concerns about Chris and the woman posing as his wife. They had obtained the phone but couldn’t get into his apps because it was locked without facial recognition and thumb print protection. “Let me take it to him and see if his face and thumb print opens it,” Darlene offered. Rachel cautioned her that if this woman Josie was lying and hiding his identity, then maybe they should not let her know about the phone. “I’ll talk to Scott in therapy and see if he can take Chris to the department today. If so, I will take the phone to Chris and see if he can open it. I will let him know that we have concerns that Josie may be deceiving him, so not to let her know about the phone,” Darlene suggested. “Be careful, Dar. That woman could be dangerous. We don’t know that she didn’t have something to do with his accident,” Jeffrey suggested. Rachel and Darlene both opened their mouths in shock at his line of thought. Back in Wythville, the children were becoming curious about their father. They asked when he would be home, since he did not come home the previous weekend, and he had not done a video chat with them all week. Penny told the children that their daddy got sick when he was in California and had to stay there until he was well. She told them that he lost his phone, but she assured them that he would be home soon. She had no idea where Christopher was. The only clue she had was his phone being found at the hospital in San Diego. Penny decided to call Jordan again and see if he had heard from him. Jordan was concerned when he found out that he had not made it home. It was totally out of the ordinary for Chris not to call him whenever they were not together on a flight, and for Chris not to go home or atleast call his wife was also peculiar. Penny told Jordan about the bank withdrawal and about her suspicions about Chris running away with Josie. Jordan told her that he found it hard to believe Chris would do such a thing, knowing how he was constantly talking about her and the kids. “Penny…I’m concerned there’s something shady going on. I think Chris is in trouble. I’m going to that hospital when I’m off this weekend and see if he’s in there. I know in my heart that something is wrong, and I’m going to find out what it is,” Jordan told her. Penny thanked Jordan and told him that she was going to call the San Diego police department and report him as a missing person. He told her that was a great idea. Telling Detective Milroy everything she knew, including about Josie and the things Jordan had told her about the woman. Detective Milroy assured her that he would search for him, but warned her that it sounded suspiciously like an affair. “But…he loved being a pilot, Sir. Besides leaving his family, I’m sure he would not give up on his career. Please, Detective, please find him. Even if it’s bad news…I need to know,” Penny pleaded. The man promised he would find her husband and would let her know what he finds out.
