Chapter Two

744 Words
Chris arrived back at the airport to get his flight schedule for the week. He quickly put in the request for his family vacation. Jordan slapped him gleefully on the back, glad that they were paired up on the whole flight schedule again. “So, you’re gonna take the family on a real vacation this year? It’s about time, buddy. Those little ones grow up fast. Blink and you’ll miss it. And that hot wife…you don’t want her to get lonely, now do you? I’m happy for you, Chris. I’m glad you’re taking time for yourself and for them for a change,” Jordan said sincerely. “Yeah, I figured I owed them a decent vacation and two weeks of my undivided attention,” Chris told his friend. Josie listened from a distance, feeling the flames of jealousy rising in her. She had wanted Chris for her own since high school. When her father bought the airline and hired Chris, she thought she had won. Josie got hired as a stewardess and made sure that she was always on Chris’s flights with him, no matter who she had to bully to get there. She gave every effort to winning his attention, but he always told her that he loved his wife and family and would never jeopardize losing them. Hoping to cause a little trouble for him with the wife, she had sprayed her cologne on his jacket Friday. Unfortunately for her, the trick had not worked, though, she surmised since he was planning two weeks with his family in Hawaii. The thought made her anger rise, and she stomped, squeezing her hands into fists as she hid, watching him. “Christopher, I could go and help with the children,” Josie suggested, coming over and putting her hand possessively on his shoulder. “Thank you, Josie, but we have a housekeeper who is also a nanny for my children,” he said, declining her offer. Josie pouted, jealous that he was spending a week with his wife and not her. The woman was obsessed with Christopher, and in her mind, he belonged to her and no one else. Josie became furious whenever he went home. The thoughts of him being with Penny made her crazy with jealousy. “I wish she would die, her and those brats too,” Josie murmured to herself after Chris left the room. She envisioned herself consoling him at the death of his family and smiled, entertaining the thought. “Okay, so maybe they don’t have to die, but if they divorce, then he will be exclusively mine…and I will never let another woman touch him,” she said to herself. “Hi Sweetheart, I’m getting ready to start my San Diego flight. I just wanted to hear your voice one more time before I go. I miss you already and the kids. Two days just isn’t long enough. I can’t wait until our vacation. I will enjoy spending a whole two weeks with you all. Okay, talk to you when I get to our destination. I love you,” Chris said, leaving Penny a message on her phone. He smiled as he hung up, and put his phone in his pocket as Jordan walked up beside him. “You ready, buddy? We’ve got a long flight ahead of us,” Jordan commented. “Yes, I hate these 12-hour flights. I’m glad to have a copilot that I can trust with me, though. I’m happy we are paired up on this one,” Chris told his friend, being sincere. “And your favorite stewardess as well,” Josie added, coming up on Chris’s left. “Hey Josie, sure, we are glad to have you with us too, aren’t we Chris?” Jordan asked, teasing Chris. They both knew she had a thing for Chris, but he tried to avoid her as much as possible. “Yeah, yeah, hey Josie. We are gonna have a great flight,” Chris told her, wishing he had anyone else but her with them. The woman was always in his personal space and touching him, and it was very annoying. Chris had told Josie multiple times that he was a happily married man, but she was constantly acting familiar with him, causing everyone to gossip about them. No matter how much he denied the rumors, people continued to talk about the two. Chris just hoped that the rumors didn’t get back to Penny.
