Chapter Twenty Two

1263 Words
“You can kiss me again if you want to,” April told Jordan smiling demurely. “Let’s put your hands here,” he said, bringing her hands up to his shoulders. “And I’ll put my hands around this tiny waist like so,” he said, grinning as he placed his hands on her waist. “Now, I’ll kiss you just on the lips…but if you want me to kiss like we did before, just part your lips for me and I’ll know that’s what you want,” Jordan explained as he leaned in for a kiss. As their lips touched, they both felt the tingling sensation of attraction. April relaxed and allowed him to deepen the kiss, and she slowly began to participate. When the two finally broke away, they smiled with contentment at each other. Jordan turned and put his arm protectively around April. She instinctively leaned her head against his chest. Jordan lovingly kissed the top of April’s head, then rested his forehead against the same spot. They sat together in silence, enjoying cuddling with each other. “We should get back before it gets too dark. It would not go over well with your parents if we got lost in the woods together,” Jordan told April, teasing. “Yes, I guess I should introduce you to them. Don’t take it personal if my dad isn’t friendly to you. I’m 20 years old, but my daddy is extremely overprotective still yet,” April told him apologetically. Jordan grinned and put his hand out for April to hold and walk back to the house. “If I had a daughter as beautiful as you, Sweetheart, I would be the very same way,” he told her, giving her an appreciative gaze. Once back at the cookout, April still held Jordan’s hand as she led them to her parents with trepidation. “Don’t be nervous, Sweetheart. It’s time your father realized you are a grown woman now. You need to show him you are capable of making your own decisions. I will back you up if he gives you a hard time,” Jordan promised, squeezing her hand. The two walked up to a stern looking couple, looking as if someone had given them both sour milk. “Momma, Daddy, I want to introduce you to my boyfriend, Jordan Brown,” April announced bravely. “Pleased to meet you both,” Jordan said with a pleasant smile, extending his hand to shake to her father. Mr. Brewster hesitated but finally shook Jordan’s hand firmly. Mrs. Brewster smiled slightly and shook his hand delicately. “How did you meet our daughter, Mr. Brown?” April’s father asked. “I am Chris’s best friend and co-pilot for the past twenty years,” he explained. “We met here, but just started dating last week,” Jordan added. “And is my daughter your only girlfriend, Jordan?” Mr. Brewster rudely asked, picturing women all over him wherever he went. “Yes Sir, my one and only. In fact, she’s my first girlfriend since my wife passed seven years ago,” Jordan offered. Mrs. Brewster gasped, realizing that Jordan had been married before. “So, you are quite a bit older than April?” Her father asked. “Do you have children?” Mrs. Brewster asked, concerned. “No Mam, we had only been married a short time when Danielle was killed by a drunk driver on her way home from work. She was a nurse,” Jordan explained. “I wasn’t interested in a relationship until I saw your daughter in that blue dress last weekend. I was caught, hook line and sinker, I did not want to get away,” Jordan said, putting his arm around April’s back and squeezing her arm as he looked down at her with adoration. “It brought out the blue in her eyes, and I went swimming in the deep waters of them. Now, I don’t ever want to stop swimming in her ocean,” Jordan said, smiling at his girl. Mr. Brewster cleared his throat, not liking Jordan’s familiar language about his daughter. “And what are your intentions for our daughter, Mr. Brown? You do understand that our church firmly stands against s*x outside of marriage,” the older man said. “Yes, and our April has never been in a relationship as you called it. We raised her in a Godly fashion, to be pure and holy before the Lord,” Mrs. Brewster told him with pride. “Please! You guys are embarrassing me! Jordan is a good man. I like him and he likes me, and we have just started dating. Please don’t insult him. I wanted him to meet you both, but not for him to be harassed. I am a grown woman now. You both are being very rude to my friend, and I don’t appreciate it,” April told them both with angry tears. “No, Sweetheart, it’s fine. I completely understand. You are a very good girl, a treasure, and they want to make sure that I treat you as such, and I plan to,” Jordan answered. “I would like to see you both in church on Sunday. It’s Resurrection Sunday, you need to be there,” Mr. Brewster told them. “And we can have Sunday dinner tomorrow after church. Won’t you both come and enjoy the day with us?” Mrs. Brewster asked, being kinder. “We will be there, Sir, and Mam we would be delighted to have dinner together with you all, get to know each other better,” Jordan answered politely. April looked up at Jordan, studying his face. He was being so polite to these rude people, and it made her smile at his sweet nature. “I need to plan the evening with Chris, though, Sweetheart. I plan to take him to the airport and let him talk to some of our friends and sit in a cockpit, see if it jogs his memory,” Jordan said, reminding her. “Yes, I think that’s a wonderful idea,” April told him. “Momma, look what Jordan bought me,” showing her the gold bracelet. “It’s very pretty, Sweetie. Jordan, you have very good taste in jewelry,” the woman told him. “And he gave me this gold angel pin as well, and a dozen roses and chocolates. He is trying to spoil me, I think,” April told them. “Well, I only have the privilege of seeing her on the weekends, and sometimes not even then. So, I wanted to help her not to forget me when I am away from her,” Jordan said, grinning at his girl. “We video chat every evening, though, so it’s almost as good as seeing him,” April added, smiling up at her man. Angel ran over to them and reached up to April, wanting to be picked up. April took the child in her arms, kissing her and caressing her face. “Looks like someone is sleepy. I’ll put her down for a nap. Why don’t you go chat with Chris until I come back,” April suggested to Jordan. Once again, he shook both their hands and assured them that he would bring April to Sunday school in the morning. Jordan kissed April and Angel both on their cheeks as they parted ways. “Thank you for being so humble and sweet to my parents, Jordan. I appreciate you doing that,” April told him.
