Chapter Twenty Four

666 Words
Sunday service was very nice, with a live play of the Easter story. Mr. and Mrs. Brewster were immensely proud to have all four of their sons, the spouses of the two eldest and children, and April and her boyfriend in service with them. The couple happily introduced Jordan to their friends. April’s older brothers teased with Jordan, and he joked back with them after service. They were happy that their sister was in a relationship with him because they thought he was a great guy. Mr. and Mrs. Brewster were much more welcoming to Jordan once they saw that he was willing to bring her to church that morning. The men watched football in the living room while the women prepared their dinner, and the wives had plenty of questions for April about her handsome boyfriend. April shyly giggled as she tried to answer their questions. Dinner consisted of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, and hot rolls. Jordan complimented the cooks on the delicious meal. It had been a long time since he had eaten such good homemade food. His mother was too busy to cook, so his grandmother was the one who came to mind as he enjoyed the meal. “Can you cook like this, Pretty Girl?” He asked April, squeezing her hand. April shyly shrugged her shoulders. “April is a wonderful cook, Jordan. Yes, she absolutely can make you lots of delicious meals,” April’s mother Peggy said with pride. Jordan smiled raising his eyebrows at April. “I will be looking forward to that,” he said, admiring April. “This was actually our first time going anywhere together, so I guess we could say it’s our first date,” Jordan confessed. “And you brought her to church and to her parents’ house. I cannot think of anything more honorable than that,” Bill Brewster told Jordan, patting him on the back proudly. One of April’s younger brothers asked Jordan if he would like to go four wheeling. He even offered to lend him some old clothes to get muddy. Jordan thanked Cole, the 17-year-old boy for the offer, but explained that he had to take Chris to the airport to try and spark his memory. Sam, the other younger brother who was 18 wanted to know about being a pilot. He voiced a desire to learn to pilot a plane. He would be graduating in a month and had toyed with the idea of joining the Air Force. Jordan offered to be his instructor on Sunday afternoons when he was available. “So, that means we should be seeing you two on Sundays, then?” Bill asked hopeful. “Yes, I think I would enjoy that if I can get some of Peggy’s good home cooking after church, that sounds like a great plan,” Jordan said, kissing April’s mother gently on the cheek. “Absolutely! And that way, we get to see our Precious Angel every weekend,” Peggy said, hugging April. “That’s what I call her! I call her my Angel,” Jordan said, fascinated that he chose the nickname her parents gave her. April and Jordan said their goodbyes and he politely helped her into the car. They waved to her family as Jordan pulled out of the driveway. “Sweetheart, I really enjoyed that. Your family is great, and I wasn’t kidding about your mom’s cooking. It was delicious. I had a wonderful time with them,” Jordan told April. April lovingly put her hands on Jordan’s bicep, leaning her head against his arm. “I’m so glad, Honey. They loved you. No doubt about that,” she said. “Thank you for being so kind and going along with them,” April said. With his left hand, Jordan lovingly caressed April’s cheek. “Let's take a few minutes for ourselves, how’s that?” He asked. April caressed Jordan’s forearm, clasping her hand in his in answer to his question.
