**Aria’s POV**
The blizzard hits me the moment I cross the border marker of Silver Moon territory.
Ice-slick wind tears through my thin grey tunic, biting into my bare arms and throat, but I welcome the sting. Physical pain is a relief compared to the gaping hole in my chest where the Mating Bond used to be.
*We are free,* Nyx whispers, her voice echoing in the back of my head. But she isn't whimpering anymore. Her tone is changing, growing deeper, darker, vibrating with an ancient power I’ve never heard before. *Let him have his paper crown. The stars did not make us for an Alpha who grovels.*
"I know, Nyx," I murmur aloud, my breath puffing into white clouds in the midnight air. "I know."
I trudge through knee-deep snowdrifts into the Neutral Lands—a lawless stretch of icy crags separating the wolf territories from the dark expanses ruled by the Lycan Royals. Normal rogues avoid this place because of the wild beasts that hunt here. It is the perfect place to vanish.
Suddenly, a violent spasm wracks my body.
I hit my knees in the snow, gasping for air as my veins flare with agonizing heat. This isn't just the residual pain of Damon's rejection. My blood feels like molten lava, burning away the cold.
*Aria!* Nyx roars in my inner mind. But she isn't a small grey Omega wolf anymore. Her fur is turning pristine white, and glowing silver runes are igniting along her spine. *The bond-shatter broke the seal! The mark of the Silver-Blood Lycans is breaking free!*
My teeth sharpen into fangs. The bones in my hands crack and reshape, long black claws ripping through my fingers. A terrifying wave of aura erupts from my chest, blowing the snow away in a twenty-foot circle.
Images flash behind my eyes—flames, colossal silver towers, a giant white wolf standing over a mountain of enemies, and a royal crest bearing a silver crescent wrapped around a blood-red sun.
*My lineage...* I realize, tears of blood leaking from my eyes as my body absorbs the staggering wave of magic. *I was never an Omega. My ancestors were the ancient rulers of the Lycan Empire.*
The surge of energy is too much for my battered body to sustain. Darkness creeps around the edges of my vision. My heart stutters, and I collapse forward into the freezing snow, my sight fading just as a low howl echoes through the surrounding forest.
**Kaelen’s POV**
The scent of blood and raw, ancient power hits me like a thunderclap.
I pull the reins of my shadow-stallion, halting my scout party at the crest of the snowy ridge. Beside me, my Commander, Brutus, draws his twin iron broadswords.
"Your Majesty," Brutus growls softly. "Did you feel that shockwave? That wasn't a standard wolf shifter's aura. It felt like... Lycan blood."
"Impossible," I reply, my voice a deep rumble that carries authority over the howling wind. "The Silver-Blood royal line was butchered twenty years ago by the Rogue Syndicate. None survived."
Yet my own wolf, Fenris, is thrashing within my chest, clawing at my ribs with a ferocious urgency he has never displayed in all my twenty-five years.
*Forward!* Fenris commands in my mind. *She is down there! Move!*
I dismount, my heavy fur cloak snapping in the wind, and leap down the rocky ledge. I move with impossible speed across the snowfields, guided purely by the intoxicating scent drifting up the ridge.
It smells of sweet rain, winter moss, and underlying it all—the electric scent of pure, unadulterated Royal Lycan magic.
I reach the clearing. The snow has been melted down to the frozen dirt in a massive circle. Laying at the center is a small figure clad in a torn grey tunic, her silver-tinged dark hair spilling over the ice.
I drop to one knee beside her, turning her gently into my arms.
She is exquisite. Pale, sharp features, lips stained with a trail of dried blood, and even in unconsciousness, her body radiates a fierce, unbroken will. But what catches my breath is the glowing silver rune burning faintly against the side of her throat—the seal of the Royal House of Frost-Valen.
She isn't just a survivor. She is the lost Queen of the Lycan Realm.
Her eyelids flutter open. Deep, radiant violet eyes lock onto mine. For a fraction of a second, a jolt of pure, white-hot lightning snaps between our souls.
"Who... are you?" she whispers, her voice barely a breath against the freezing gale.
I gently lift her into my arms, pulling my warm leather-and-fur cloak around her shivering frame. I look down into her eyes, feeling a fiercely protective instinct lock into place within my heart—one that will burn the world down before I ever let anyone hurt her again.
"I am Kaelen Valerius, King of the Shadow-Blood," I speak softly, brushing a strand of dark hair from her face. "And you, little storm, are coming home."
