CHAPTER FOUR

Kale As I arrived at the hall, my Beta and Gamma were standing on each side of the long table, their faces masked with what seemed to be worry mixed with fear. To be honest, this was something I got used to. Being the Alpha of Moonblood pack didn't require a leader with loose hands. The most powerful and wealthy pack in the city title didn't just come in handy. I worked for it. For many years, I was feared and known as the King of War. If things didn't go my way, I called for war knowing fully well that I'd win. This made many packs sign treaties with my pack to ensure I wouldn't go to war with them and render their packs forgotten. Except for one pack. This pack was almost rubbing shoulders with my pack except mine was more brutal. We led with an iron fist and believed in the Alpha being supreme despite each council members having their own duty. I was supreme and whatever I ordered must be obeyed. However, only one thing was above me; my word. As a man of my word, I would never go back on it no matter what. This was why many packs had thought it wise to put my promise in writing. They wanted it to come directly from me. Now, my council members had called for a meeting. What it was about, I didn't know. Except I could see other people asides Beta Logan and Gamma Riel. "Why did you call for a meeting, Logan?" I asked as I sat on a high chair covered in red velvet and golden armrest. Logan bowed a little, adjusting his suit before speaking. "I know we have had this talk many times, your highness, but now it's different. It's about the Niddan pack." Now, he got my attention. I sat straighter, eyes on Logan who was fiddling with the papers in his hands. "Seated here are representatives of Alpha Enzo from Niddan and each representative from the packs surrounding us who have signed peace treaties with us." The introduction was starting to bore me. I pressed a finger to my head as I asked, "why are they here?" "They are afraid, my Lord, that there may be trouble brewing underneath that may lead to a war." Gamma Riel spoke up, his elderly voice cutting across the tension. "A war?" One of the men nodded and stood. "I don't know if you are aware, Alpha Kale, but some members of the Niddan pack seem to have been trespassing on your territory. And we know you do not take matters as such lightly." I pulled my brows together, already putting the threads together. "In other words, the Niddan pack is calling for trouble." Logan spoke immediately. "Absolutely not, Alpha! Alpha Enzo is dealing with the perpetrators as we speak. All he asks is that you do not call for war over this." "When the Daggon pack, Kleptune pack, Shift-wood pack, Desscreek and many others came to sign this treaty, they offered labour, trade exchange and an agreement to stay under my pack and my laws." I rose, approaching the men and loving the way they cowered, heads lowered. "If I sign this treaty, what does Enzo have to offer?" "His daughter." A man who hasn't said anything since he arrived finally broke the silence. "Phoebe Ray, Alpha Enzo's daughter is the exchange for this treaty." I scoffed, wondering if this was a f*****g joke. "Does Enzo think this is a game? Offering me his daughter like I'm starved of women to offer me pleasure." Riel chipped in. "That's not it, your highness. He's offering her for marriage to solidify your bond with his pack. Imagine how greater your pack will be if you partner with Niddan." I thought hard about it. I didn't like the idea of being at peace with Niddan. It didn't sit right with me. But I loved the idea of trading with them, getting amazing perks and opportunity that will be bigger than the one I had with smaller packs. A smile tugged at my lips as I whirled and stretched my hand. I was given a pen and the treaty was signed immediately. "This Phoebe of yours. How do I get her?" The men seemed relieved at my decision due to their shuffling and mumbling of gratitude to the Moon Goddess. Logan stepped forward, a file in hand. "She is a student at Webb College. Everything you need to know about her is in this file." I began to walk out of the hall. "This meeting is dismissed. Logan, prepare the car. We will discuss this girl on our way to Ground Zero." I wanted to see this girl Logan was chatting about as the car rolled out on the road. She's pretty, intelligent and athletic. Five time winner of Werewolf strength exams, a skilled archer, a runner and a student of Law. She was everything an Alpha would want in a Luna. "A picture?" Logan cleared his throat. "About that. I forgot to ask." I raised a brow at him. That meant, I would need to see her in person to know who it was. Hopefully, she would be as beautiful.
