Chapter 6: The Queen In Training

Amara’s POV The next morning, I woke up before the sun. For a few seconds, I forgot where I was. Then I felt it. That strange warmth beneath my skin. The power I sat up slowly and stared at my hands. They looked normal. No glow. No strange markings. Nothing that would make anyone believe I had transformed into something ancient the night before. But I knew better. I could feel it now. Something was living inside me. Something that had always been there. A knock sounded against the wooden door. “Amara. ” Selene. I pulled myself out of bed and opened the door. She was already dressed for the morning, her silver hair tied back neatly. “You are late, ” she said. I frowned. “Late for what?” “Training. ” My eyes widened. “I thought we were starting tomorrow. ” Selene raised an eyebrow. “Did I say tomorrow?” I sighed. Apparently, being the last descendant of an ancient royal bloodline did not come with the luxury of sleeping in. I followed her outside. The training ground was surrounded by tall trees, their branches blocking most of the morning sunlight. Several wolves were already there, watching me. I immediately felt uncomfortable. “What are they doing here?” “Watching. ” “Why?” “Because no one has seen a Moonborn awaken in centuries. ” My stomach twisted. I hated being watched. Especially now Selene walked to the center of the clearing. “Today, you will learn control. ” “I barely know what my power is. ” “Exactly. ” She raised her hand. “Attack me. ” I stared at her. “What?” “Attack me. ” “I cannot. ” “You can. ” “No, I really cannot. ” Selene sighed. “Amara, if Ronan Darkmoor comes for you tomorrow, do you think he will wait politely while you decide whether you are ready?” The name made my chest tighten. Ronan I stepped forward. Selene nodded. “Again. ” I closed my eyes. I reached for that strange warmth inside me. At first, nothing happened. Then I remembered the ceremony. Kael's voice. I reject you. The laughter. The pain. My fingers curled. The ground beneath my feet trembled. Selene's eyes sharpened. “Control it. ” The power rushed through me. A burst of energy shot across the clearing. Selene blocked it, but the force pushed her several steps backward. Everyone went silent. I stared at my hands. “I am sorry. ” Selene straightened. “Do not apologize. ” “But I almost hurt you. ” “And that is why you need to learn. ” She walked toward me. “You have spent your entire life believing you were weak. ” I looked away. “Because I was. ” “No, ” she said firmly. “Because they made you believe you were. ” I did not answer. For years, I had accepted every insult. Every whisper. Every time someone looked at me and decided I was not important. Maybe I had mistaken their opinion for the truth. Selene placed a hand on my shoulder. “You are not training to become powerful, Amara. ” I looked at her “You are training to survive the power you already possess. ” Days turned into weeks. Every morning, Selene trained me. Control. Strength. Shifting. Listening. The first few attempts were disasters. I destroyed two training pillars. I accidentally sent three wolves running when my power surged. Once, I knocked Selene's staff out of her hand without touching it. But slowly, things changed. I learned to feel the power before it exploded. I learned how to call it. How to release it. How to stop it. And eventually, I learned something even stranger. The wolves listened to me. Not because I commanded them. Because they wanted to. One afternoon, I stood in the forest while a group of wolves surrounded me. Selene watched from a distance. “Tell them to move. ” I frowned. “How?” “Ask. ” I looked at the wolves. “Move. ” Nothing happened. I tried again. “Please. ” The largest wolf lowered its head. Then the others moved aside. My breath caught. Selene smiled. “That is your royal blood. ” I stared at the wolves. For the first time, I understood what she meant. My power was not only about destruction. It was about influence. Leadership. Command. The things I had never possessed before. That night, Selene showed me an ancient map. Several territories were marked in black. “The packs are becoming unstable, ” she said. “Because of me?” “Because your awakening disturbed something that has been sleeping for a very long time. ” My eyes moved to the largest mark. “What is that?” Selene's expression changed. “Darkmoor territory. ” I swallowed. “Ronan. ” She nodded. “He knows you are awake. ” My heart began to race. “How?” Selene looked toward the window. “Because someone has already told him. ” My blood went cold. “Someone?” She nodded slowly. “There is a spy among the packs. ” And suddenly, I realized my greatest danger might not be waiting outside the forest. It might already be inside. My father's crown had never looked heavier
