Amara’s POV
I had been training for nearly a month when Nora's name appeared in one of Selene's reports.
My heart stopped.
“Nora?”
Selene nodded.
“She is looking for you.
”
I grabbed the paper.
“Where is she?”
“We do not know.
”
I stared at the words.
Nora had always been the one person who stayed.
Even when everyone else ignored me.
Even when I had nothing to offer her.
She stayed.
“I have to find her.
”
Selene shook her head.
“Not yet.
”
“Why?”
“Because someone is watching the roads.
”
My stomach tightened.
“The spy?”
Selene nodded.
“Elias Crow.
”
I had never heard the name before.
“Who is he?”
“A young wolf who moves between packs. He carries information.
”
“For Ronan?”
“We believe so.
”
The thought made my skin crawl.
“How long?”
“Long enough to know things he should not.
”
Selene looked at the map.
“We cannot move openly.
”
I hated that answer.
But I understood it.
Three days later, Nora found us.
Or rather, she nearly did.
I was practicing shifting when I heard a familiar voice somewhere beyond the trees.
“Amara!”
I froze.
My heart jumped.
“Nora?”
I ran toward the sound.
But Selene caught my arm.
“Wait.
”
I stopped.
The voice came again.
“Amara!”
I pulled against her grip.
“That is her.
”
Selene looked toward the trees.
“I know.
”
Something was wrong.
The forest had become too quiet.
Then an arrow struck the tree beside us.
I jumped back.
Wolves rushed from the bushes.
“Get down!”
Selene pushed me aside.
The attackers moved quickly.
Not rogues
Pack wolves.
My heart raced.
“Why are pack wolves attacking us?”
Selene's expression darkened.
“Because someone told them to.
”
I felt the power rise inside me.
“No.
”
“Amara”
“I am not running.
”
I stepped forward.
The wolves stopped.
Every instinct inside me screamed to fight.
But I remembered my training.
Control.
I breathed slowly.
Then I spoke.
“Leave.
”
The command left my mouth quietly.
But every wolf froze.
One by one, they lowered their weapons.
Selene stared at me.
I stared back.
I had done it.
Without force.
Without violence.
They had listened.
Then a man stepped out from behind the trees.
Young.
Dark-haired.
Calm.
He smiled.
“Interesting.
”
Selene's face went pale.
“Elias.
”
He bowed mockingly.
“Elder.
”
My body went cold.
“You are the spy.
”
Elias looked at me.
His smile widened.
“So the stories are true.
”
Selene moved between us.
“Who sent you?”
“I think you already know.
”
Ronan.
The name did not need to be spoken.
Elias stepped backward.
“Tell your queen something for me.
”
I frowned.
“I am not your queen.
”
He laughed.
“Not yet.
”
Then he disappeared into the forest.
That night, Selene locked every entrance to the Silver Court.
I could not sleep.
Elias had called me queen.
Not Amara.
Not girl.
Queen.
And for some reason, hearing it from him made everything feel more real.
The next morning, a messenger arrived.
He carried news from the northern packs.
Another attack.
Then another.
And another.
The war was spreading.
Selene read the report silently.
“What is it?”
She looked at me.
“Ronan has begun gathering the rogue packs.
”
My chest tightened.
“How many?”
“Enough to challenge the Alphas.
”
I looked toward the horizon.
“Then why hasn't anyone stopped him?”
Selene's expression was grim.
“Because the packs are fighting each other.
”
My heart sank.
Ronan did not need to defeat them.
He only needed to make them destroy themselves.
Then Selene said something that made the room go silent.
“And he is looking for you.
”
