Chapter 3: The Hidden Truth

Amara’s POV I did not sleep that night. Not because I was afraid of the forest anymore, but because my mind refused to stop replaying everything. The rejection. The pain. The way Kael’s voice had sounded so final like I had never mattered at all. And worse than that, the words Elder Selene had said kept echoing inside my head like a curse that would not leave me alone. The rejection was not natural. Someone influenced it. I sat on a stone step inside the Silver Court ruins while the moonlight poured through broken arches above me. The place was old, older than anything I had ever seen. It felt like it remembered things the world had tried to forget. Selene stood a few steps away speaking quietly with the other wolves. They were watching me, not like I was a threat anymore, but like I was something fragile that might break or explode at any moment. I hated that feeling. I pulled my knees closer to my chest. “I am still just Amara, ” I whispered to myself. “Nothing changed. ” But even as I said it, I did not believe it. Because something inside me felt different now. Louder. Alive in a way I could not ignore. Selene finally walked over and sat beside me without asking permission. She was not cold like I expected someone like her to be. Instead she looked tired, like she had been carrying secrets for too long. “You are thinking too much, ” she said gently. I let out a small bitter laugh. “How am I not supposed to think too much when I was rejected, attacked, and then told I might be a royal wolf all in one night?” She did not argue. She just looked at me for a moment. Then she said, “You are going to need training. ” My head snapped toward her. “Training for what exactly?” “For what is waking up inside you, ” she replied. I shook my head immediately. “I do not want this. I did not ask for any of it. ” Selene’s eyes softened again. “No one ever asks, ” she said quietly. “That is not how destiny works. ” The word destiny made my stomach twist. Before I could respond, a sudden shift in energy moved through the ruins. One of the younger wolves ran into the courtyard, breathless. “Elder Selene, ” he said quickly. after the ceremony. ” “The Shadow Moon Pack is in unrest. The Alpha is unstable My chest tightened before I even understood why. Kael. Selene stood slowly. “Tell me everything, ” she said. The boy hesitated before continuing. “After the rejection, strange incidents started happening. Pack members are reporting nightmares, wolf shifts going out of control, and rogues moving closer to the borders again. It is like something broke the balance. ” Selene closed her eyes briefly like she already expected this. And I suddenly felt cold. Because I knew, deep down, I was connected to it. Elsewhere, inside the Shadow Moon Pack hall, Kael stood alone in the center of a room filled with silence. Lyra was nearby, but not too close. She was watching him carefully now, like she was trying to measure something she could not fully control anymore. Kael’s hands were clenched. “I do not understand what is happening, ” he said quietly. Luca Storm stood near the door, arms crossed. off. The pack feels unstable. ” “Ever since the ceremony, everything has been Kael turned sharply. “It is because of rogues. Not because of her. ” But even as he said it, his voice did not sound certain. Lyra stepped forward softly. “You did what was necessary, ” she said. “She was not right for you. ” Kael looked at her for a long moment. Then he said something that made Lyra pause. “I felt something when I looked at her. ” Silence fell. Lyra’s smile did not fully fade, but it tightened slightly. “That was confusion, ” she said gently. “The ceremony was emotional. ” But Kael did not respond. Because deep inside, he knew it was not confusion. It was something else. Something he could not name. Back at the Silver Court, Selene finally stood again. “We do not have much time, ” she said. I frowned. “For what?” She turned to me fully now. “For you to become what you are meant to be. ” My heart beat faster. “I told you, ” I said quickly. “I am not special. I am not royal. I am just— ” “Rejected?” she finished softly. The word hit harder than I expected. I looked away. Selene stepped closer. “That rejection was not the end of your story, ” she said. “It was the trigger. ” I did not understand. She raised her hand slowly and placed it over mine. And suddenly, the air around us shifted. I felt it again. That same power from the forest. But this time I could feel it more clearly. It was not random. It was structured. Like something inside me had been sealed and was now cracking open piece by piece. I pulled my hand back quickly. “I do not want this, ” I repeated, my voice shaking slightly now. Selene nodded. “I know, ” she said again. “But there is something you must see. ” She turned and led me deeper into the ruins. We entered a chamber hidden beneath broken stone walls. The air felt colder here, heavier. In the center of the room stood a large stone platform engraved with symbols I could not read. But when I stepped closer, the symbols glowed faintly. My breath stopped. “What is this place?” I whispered. Selene watched me carefully. “This is where your bloodline was sealed away, ” she said. My heart dropped. “Sealed?” I repeated. “Yes, ” she said. “Long ago, someone tried to erase your family from existence. Not just your name. Your power. Your destiny. Everything. ” I felt like the ground beneath me was shifting. “Who?” I asked quietly. Selene hesitated. Then she said one name. “Ronan Darkmoor. ” The air went still. Even though I had never met him, the name felt wrong inside my ears. Like something dangerous had just been spoken into existence. I swallowed hard. “And he is still alive?” I asked. Selene nodded slowly. “And he is waking up again. ” A chill ran through me. Suddenly, everything made sense in a way that terrified me. The rogues. The attack. The rejection that did not feel natural. Something was happening far bigger than me. And I had been pulled into the center of it. Back at the Shadow Moon Pack, Kael stood alone again, staring out toward the forest. For a moment, he placed a hand over his chest. And he felt it. A faint echo. Not pain. Not memory. Something like a bond that had not fully broken. His expression tightened. “I do not understand you, ” he whispered under his breath. But somewhere deep inside, he already knew. Amara Blackwood was not gone from his life. She was only beginning.
