Amara’s POV
The night I stopped being human, I did not feel powerful at first.
I felt afraid.
I stood alone in the deepest chamber of the Silver Court, where the air was so still it felt like
even time was listening. The glowing symbols on the walls pulsed softly, like they were
breathing with me. Elder Selene was not speaking anymore. She was watching.
Waiting.
Like something was about to happen that she had already seen in a dream.
My hands were shaking again.
“I am not ready,
” I whispered.
Selene’s voice was calm.
“You will never feel ready,
” she said.
“That is not how royal blood awakens.
”
I swallowed hard.
The words royal blood still did not feel real in my mouth. They felt like they belonged to
someone else. Someone stronger. Someone braver. Not me.
“I am just Amara,
” I said again, like saying it enough times would make it true.
Selene stepped closer.
“No,
” she said softly.
“You are what the Moon refused to forget.
”
That made my chest tighten.
Before I could respond, the ground beneath my feet shifted slightly.
A deep hum echoed through the chamber.
The symbols on the walls began to glow brighter.
My breath caught.
Something inside me responded immediately.
Not slowly.
Not gently.
Instantly.
Like something locked inside me had been waiting for that exact moment.
My knees almost gave out.
“What is happening?” I whispered.
Selene did not answer right away.
Instead she said,
“Do not resist it.
”
But it was already too late.
Heat rushed through my body like fire under my skin. My vision blurred for a second, then
sharpened too much. I could hear things I should not be able to hear. The movement of dust.
The breath of wolves outside the chamber. The slow beating of something ancient under the
stone.
My heart was not just beating anymore.
It was answering something.
A pulse inside me grew stronger.
Stronger.
Stronger.
And then it broke free.
The air exploded outward from me.
The walls of the chamber lit up completely.
I cried out, but my voice did not sound like mine anymore.
Something inside me shifted.
My bones burned.
My body changed.
It was not like the rogue attack in the forest.
That had been survival.
This was awakening.
When it finally stopped, I was on my knees, gasping.
The chamber was silent.
Selene was staring at me like she had just seen history happen in front of her eyes.
Slowly, I looked down at my hands.
They were glowing faintly.
Not human anymore.
Not fully wolf either.
Something in between.
“I… I did not mean to,
” I said shakily.
Selene walked forward slowly.
“You did not choose it,
” she said.
“It chose you.
”
My throat tightened.
“I do not understand what I am supposed to be,
” I whispered.
Selene knelt in front of me.
“You are the Moonborn Queen,
” she said quietly.
The words hit me like a shock.
Queen.
Me.
I shook my head immediately.
“No,
” I said quickly.
“No, that is not possible.
”
Selene did not argue.
Because deep down, she already knew I was beginning to feel it too.
At the same time, far away in the Shadow Moon Pack hall, Kael stood in front of an old archive
table filled with sealed records.
Luca was beside him, looking uncomfortable.
“You are really doing this?” Luca asked.
Kael did not look up.
“I need to know what happened that night,
” he said.
“The ceremony was clear,
” Luca replied.
“You rejected her.
”
Kael’s jaw tightened.
“That is not what I asked,
” he said.
He opened the first sealed document.
Old reports.
Council notes.
And then something strange.
A symbol.
The same symbol that had been appearing in pack disturbances since that night.
Kael froze.
“This mark,
” he said quietly.
“I have seen it before.
”
Luca leaned closer.
“That is impossible,
” he said.
Kael’s fingers tightened.
“Not at the ceremony,
” Kael said slowly.
“Before it.
”
A memory flashed in his mind.
A shadow in the crowd.
A presence he could not explain.
Lyra.
Standing too still.
Smiling too perfectly.
Meanwhile, Lyra Voss stood in a hidden room beneath the Shadow Moon Pack estate.
She was not alone this time.
The hooded figure from before stood behind her again.
“You are running out of time,
” the figure said.
Lyra’s expression was cold.
“I am aware,
” she replied.
“The girl survived,
” the figure continued.
“She is awakening.
”
At that, Lyra’s eyes sharpened.
“So it is true,
” she said softly.
“She really is the royal one.
”
The figure stepped closer.
“What will you do?”
Lyra smiled slowly.
But it was not a kind smile.
“It is simple,
” she said.
“If she becomes the Moonborn Queen…
”
Her fingers closed around a small dark vial again.
“
…then she dies before she learns how to wear the crown.
”
Back at the Silver Court, I finally stood up.
My legs still felt weak, but something inside me was no longer fragile.
Selene watched me carefully.
“You felt it, did you not?” she asked.
I hesitated.
“Yes,
” I admitted quietly.
The power inside me was still there.
Not gone.
Just calmer now.
Like it had settled into place.
Selene nodded.
“That is only the beginning,
” she said.
My stomach twisted.
“Beginning of what?”
She looked at me seriously.
“A war that was waiting for you to wake up.
”
Silence fell between us.
Then she added something quieter.
“And the boy who rejected you is already walking straight toward it.
”
My heart stopped slightly.
Kael.
Even after everything, hearing that name still did something to me.
I hated it.
I hated that it still mattered.
But somewhere deep inside, I knew something worse.
This was not the end of him and me.
It was only the beginning of something neither of us understood yet.
