Chapter 4 Apology

635 Words
I reached for the g*n hidden under my pillow. I clearly remembered locking the window, but this person appeared out of nowhere. Something about him was strange—definitely not normal. The man at the window didn’t seem to notice my wary expression. He stepped inside and stood right in front of me. He had a friendly smile on his face, but his sudden presence startled me. The distance between my bed and the window was a good ten or twelve feet, yet he crossed it in the blink of an eye. It didn’t look like he moved; it was more like he… teleported. “Hello, Miss. I apologize for today. I’m used to sleeping during the day, so I couldn’t welcome you properly. My sincerest apologies,” he said. He snapped his fingers, and as if by magic, a small gift box appeared in front of me. “This is a peace offering. Please accept it. My name is Waylon. I hope we get along.” I held the g*n behind my back with one hand and cautiously took the gift box with the other. Inside was a white necklace. Running my fingers over the necklace, I asked the man standing before me, “How did you just show up in my room like that? How did you get in?” “Huh? Didn’t the person who sold you this house tell you?” Waylon winked and smiled. “I’m a vampire.” I quickly aimed the g*n at him. I knew vampires existed in this world, but I never thought I’d come face to face with one. If this vampire planned to drink my blood, I wasn’t sure if the g*n in my hand would be enough to protect me. Waylon raised his hands in mock surrender, his voice calm and reassuring. “No need to be tense. I’m a good vampire. I don’t drink human blood, only animal blood. I promise!” I didn’t trust him easily. “Leave my house,” I said, my voice firm. “Alright, Miss. But if you ever get bored, come visit me.” Waylon looked a bit dejected as he turned to leave. Just before disappearing, he glanced back. “I hope you don’t judge me too harshly.” Judge a vampire? I was barely holding back my fear. The next morning, I called the real estate agent to get some answers. The agent, sounding nonchalant, finally admitted, “Oh, I forgot to mention, Waylon is indeed a vampire. But don’t worry, he’s harmless. Just treat him like anyone else.” I fell silent. How could the real estate agent forget to tell me that my neighbor wasn’t even human? I wanted to move out immediately, but finding a new place so quickly wasn’t realistic. For now, I had no choice but to stay in this villa, on edge. Thankfully, the next few days passed without any incidents. No strange noises came from next door, and I started to relax a bit. One day, a housemaid handed me a letter she found wedged in the front door. Miss, I’m sorry for climbing through your window the other night without permission. But I’m so bored. It’s just me at home, while your house has so many people. Can I come over for a visit? I promise I won’t hurt anyone. —Waylon. I recalled Waylon from that night. There was no malice in his expression. But I had no idea how to deal with a vampire. Should I interact with him or keep my distance? While I was lost in thought, the sound of the doorbell ringing rapidly interrupted me. I checked the monitor and saw Easton. He was slamming his fist against the doorbell, shouting furiously, “Gianna! You wretch! Get out here now!”
