IRIS
He's 6 '2 feet tall, with hair as dark as forest, intimidating deep blue eyes that can devour a thousand souls, sharp features that can cut through someone, especially his chiseled jawline, and broad shoulders capable of carrying the heaviest weight in the world.
He's so gorgeous…but mysterious.
As our eyes keep staring at each other, he snatches the knife from Frank and makes his grip stronger around his neck.
*Cough *Cough
“W-Who the f*ck are you?” His voice growls beneath his arm's strength.
Drifting away from my face, he focuses on Frank and lands a punch on his cheek, making him fall to the floor.
“HEY!” He shouts, completely perplexed.
Three more guys step out of the exclusive room and stand beside the guy with blue eyes.
“W-Who are you people?”
“Why are you saving her? Is she your gf?”
The blue eyes grab his collar again and land another punch inches away from his lips. Frank is shaken to the core, and blood slides along his cheek.
Fear flashes in his eyes and he attempts to stand on his feet to flee.
“Deal with him outside!” His deep voice whispers to the three guys. Strangely, each of them is wearing the same black jacket and black jeans as if it's a dress code.
The three of them cease Frank's hands and drag him down the corridor to the back door that opens to a trash trunk.
I am still shivering against the wall.
“Don’t worry, he can’t hurt you anymore!” His eyes once again lock with mine.
He comes closer, removes his black jacket from his body, and gently cloaks it on my trembling shoulders. His intoxicating scent withers away the reek of alcohol and cigarettes.
“You’re safe, okay?”
I nod my head and quickly brush off the tears rolling down my cheeks. For the first time, a man showed me kindness in this place.
“Take a breath.” He says, concern flashing in his blue eyes.
As my lips inhale a breath, I clench his jacket tightly around me. It gives me a sense of sweet warmth.
“T-Thank you, sir!”
“Chris!” He whispers.
“Huh?”
“Chris is my name.” A charming, tight smile glints on his lips.
*Is he telling me to call him by his name?*
His smile calms me, chasing away the fear from my heart and soothing my anxiety.
“I-I need to get back to work.” As my legs squat on the floor, my fingers start picking up the shattered pieces of the drink glasses on the empty tray.
Surprisingly, he comes down to my level and helps me pick up the pieces.
“You don't have to do it.”
“Why not?” He arches a brow.
“T-This is my job.”
“A little help doesn't hurt anyone, Iris!” He gently rests a piece on the tray, lifting his gaze from the name tag below my shoulder.
My name never sounded so sensual before.
“That guy…He always misbehaves with you?”
“Everyone here is the same.” My timid voice mumbles while my gaze is fixed on the shattered glass pieces.
“Tell your boss!”
My gaze rises to his face, and tears once again pull into my eyes. If only he knew that my boss is my biggest nightmare.
“IRIS!” Dana rushes over to me.
“You took a lot of time, so I got worried.”
“Frank…”
“He was here again?” Her voice overlaps mine.
“That's not the problem right now…I ruined the order again.”
She gulps.
“Consider it served.” His husky voice draws my attention back to him. He stands tall and fixes his watch around his wrist.
“Tell them the customers in the exclusive room got into an argument and broke the glasses but they'll pay for it.”
I am stunned, so is Dana!!!
His feet turn to the exclusive room.
“Your jacket!” I say, rising from the floor.
“Keep it.”
He opens the door and steps inside, closing it behind his broad back. It all feels like a dream. He not only helped me but even saved me from a scolding.
“Who was that?” Dana comes closer and whispers excitedly. Her voice snaps me out of his enchanting spell.
“Just a customer.” I grab her arm and gently drag her towards the glass door.
As we enter the pub again, the same loud music breaks me out of my shell and throws me back to reality.
“Why aren't you telling me?” She frowns.
“Just a customer who helped me, really!”
Her eyes are still enveloped in suspicions.
“What?” I shrug my shoulders.
“He’s too hot.” She nudges my arm, flashing a flirtatious smile.
“Shut up!”
“LADIES!” Kelix waves at us.
As we walk over to the counter, I rest the tray with shattered glasses on the counter and say the exact words of Chris.
“At least they're paying for it.” He throws the shattered glasses into the dustbin.
“Table no. 23, Dana!”
She grabs a full tray on the counter and walks over to the table.
“Table no. 15, Iris!” He passes me another tray.
I grab it and head to the table, cutting through the lechery gazes that are scanning my body. It feels like each of them is preying on me.
Upon reaching the table, my hands quickly serve the glasses.
“How much do you charge for a night?” One of them smacks my butt.
“Just tell us, baby!” He throws dollars at my face and starts laughing. None of them is better than Frank.
I stay quiet and refill the glasses while they keep passing vulgar comments. As soon as it's done, my feet dash out of their presence.
Suddenly, a hand grabs my wrist and pulls me behind a thick pillar.
“Rosa?” My muscles tense up.
Rosa Salazar is Bosco's younger sister and the one responsible for managing the girls in the Arena Empire. She's very sexy but as cruel as her brother.
“Have you forgotten the basics?” Her sharp painted red nails clutch my right arm.
“I don't understand…”
“Why aren't you smiling at the customers?” Her eyes darken, rage fuming in them.
“They were passing comments.”
“So?” She pins me against the pillar.
“If our business goes down or one more complaint against you…I'll f*****g sell you off.”
My heart drops to my stomach.
“And a jacket? Seriously?” She snatches it from my shoulder and gives it to one of the guards standing behind her.
“Always expose yourself.”
“You're the boss?” A familiar voice travels to my ear, distracting Rosa from me.
*Chris?*
He leans on the pillar and passes a glance at me but quickly switches his gaze to Rosa.
“Oh! I am not the boss, my brother is, but you can tell me.” Her smokey eyes perk up, and she releases my arm from her clutch.
“We want one of your waitresses for a dance in the exclusive room. Someone hot and sensual to entertain us.”
My gaze drops to the floor as my ears don't like the sound of it. A few seconds ago, he was helping me, and now he's asking for a girl to dance for him.
*What were you expecting, Iris? Of course, he's here for girls and drinks.*
“No problem!” She moves closer to him, already flirting.
“Which one do you like?”
“Her!” He mutters softly.
I immediately shift my gaze to him…and our eyes meet.
