“From what I heard, I promise this school will be the best not only in competitions but the best in the country. Now have a good day.” Kolade said, waving his hands while he stepped out.
“Thank you, Principal Kolade. We as the pupils of Emma's International School also promise the same thing, Sir.” The head girl cheered with a bow.
Few moments later, after the conclusions, the pupils matched to their classes.
The tiled floors of the assembly hall reflected the fluorescent ceiling lights, as groups of students in clean, neatly pressed uniforms with embroidered crests shuffled past glass windows looking out onto the courtyard’s manicured lawns. Teachers in suits and neat dresses watched from the steps, their lanyards glinting. CCTV cameras perched in corners like silent watchers, blinking red.
Feyi stood up.
“Aren’t you coming?” she asked Kevin while he held his head staring down. She looked at Kolade near the stage, talking to the head girl and head boy with a few teachers.
“But Kevin, you seeing the new principal made you a little…..” Kevin immediately stood up.
“If I go, kill him in a way. Will I save the world?” he thought, looked at Kolade as he laughed with the teachers.
“I can’t forgive him. He is one of them.” Feyi was wondering what was going on, then Kevin clenched his fist.
Feyi looked at his fist. “But.” gently placed her hands on his fist.
“Kevin?” she worried, Kevin took in a sharp breath.
“Let’s leave here.” He said, traipsing towards class. Feyi sighed, looked at her new Principal then followed Kevin.
---
During class and break at the dining hall. Kevin was pondering about what he could do to the school new Principal. Suddenly he stood up from his seat and walked out of the dining hall. Prowling around the school. Scanning the whole area.
He passed the large dining area with shining granite floors, wooden booths with blue cushions, and a massive wall-mounted TV playing school announcements. The smell of jollof rice and meat pie clung to the air. He pushed through a glass door into a corridor lined with motivational quotes in frames.
“My goodness this school is huge! I can’t believe the boy and his twin sisters are actually attending this school. I knew it’s part of the most expensive schools but they really give outstanding education. What if I care.”
He nodded.
“Come to think of it. I should check the internet about my other body and my families.” He said then suddenly stopped.
Looked at the school buildings.
“I think. I'm lost.” He smiled.
“No windows here. It will be a perfect place to show off my powers.” He gestured his hand as his two butterfly swords dematerialized in his hand.
“This is better than schooling.” His eyes glowed green.
Kevin’s breath caught for a second. “No CCTV here… good. Last thing I need is a viral video of me being a demon slayer.” He checked the corners, exhaling.
---
“Hey Groundnut and Jellyfish!!” someone shouted, Kevin blinked looked around, who was yelling.
“I saw your brother kangaroo in school at the assembly hall this morning, he was really happy to see the new Principal.”
“What about the secret you wanted to tell us?”
“Exactly. We walked all the way here. Tell us.”
Kevin turned his head. Staring at every building as their voices echoed.
“Isn’t that my twin sisters' voices?” he said, following the voice.
---
He passed beneath a covered walkway tiled in green, the iron railings polished, the school’s crest in gold at the top of every door.
---
“Before I tell you tweeny twins, we need something.”
“Like?”
“Your class positions. If you promise that the two of you will drop your position and help me in my assignments, projects tests and exams. I will tell you every single thing about your brother kangaroo.”
“Never.” Gillian hissed.
“Let’s go, Gillian.” Jennifer said.
“Wait! Groundnut and Jellyfish. Where do you think you are going?!”
Kevin walking as he followed their voices, turned to his right.
“Gosh! Kids. You are making so much noise. Isn't break over?” Gillian and Jennifer with few of their classmates looked back, slightly shocked.
“Hey, isn’t that big brother kangaroo, uhm. What’s his name again...?” one of the twins’ classmates jokingly asked,
“Kelvin!!” one answered.
Kevin shook his head, put his hand on his forehead.
“Kids, it’s Kevin not Kelvin.”
Unknowingly to Kevin his butterfly swords were in his hands.
“There are knives on his hands!!” someone pointed, Kevin widened his eyes as he turned back.
“Where, Who?!” then turned to Gillian and Jennifer both signaled him about the butterfly swords in his hands.
Immediately he looked up.
“Kids see, flying New Principal!!” immediately all the pupils looked at the direction including Gillian and Jennifer, Kevin smirked as the butterfly swords dematerialized in his hands.
“Oh, Sorry I thought…”
“Quick, run away. He is trying to kill us!!”
“Oh, come on. I have no knives with me.” Kevin said, raising his hands in the air. But he was ignored as the pupils all ran away.
Then he smiled looking at them, turned to his twin sisters and sighed.
“What are you guys doing here?” he questioned, his twin sisters didn’t answer as they turned their faces.
Kevin took in a deep breath. Then kneeled on the ground, staring at his sisters.
“Okay, fine. I will tell you the truth but before I tell you, will you guys please tell me exactly what is going on?” He pleaded, putting his hands affectionately on their shoulders.
Gillian slowly looked at Kevin.
“Okay, we will tell you…”
“Gillian!” Jennifer interrupted. Gillian glanced at her and shook her head then Jennifer sighed.
“Alright.” The twins both turned their faces to Kevin.
“Most of the time, we were being poke fun at.”
“Even before the weird thing you did after the whole world experienced Déjà Vu for a day. When you ran to the toilet and locked yourself for a while.”
“And there is a rumor going on in the school even most of the teachers know.”
“What it is?” Kevin asked.
“You and Senior Feyi are dating.” Kevin widened his eyes.
“No. Not at all! We are just friends.” He protested, then sighed.
“So is that the secret they wanted to tell?” Gillian and Jennifer both shook their heads.
“They jealously lied, they had no secret about you. We just followed them here”
“They said we should drop our positions.”
“Your positions?”
“Didn’t you remember. Jennifer and I told you our little secret that every term, we chose who will be the first position and the second position between us.”
Kevin blinked.
“Are you telling me that you guys decided between each other who will be first and second in the class?” he said, his twin sisters nodded.
“Gosh! Am living with geniuses.” He thought.
He slowly stood up.
He eyed the CCTV mounted high on a corner and whispered, “Hope that wasn’t recording just now. I can’t afford to be ‘that’ weird older brother on social media.”
---
“If you know about everything your classmates wanted to do and say then why did you follow them all the way here?” Gillian and Jennifer smiled.
“To teach them a lesson by beating them up, not to make fun of us especially about our big brother's weird life.”
“O….okay that is slightly appreciated. However reporting to your teachers first is the best idea.” He slightly smiled.
“Gosh! Am living with avengers.” He thought.
Jennifer grinned. “Or ninja turtles.” Gillian added, both giggling.
---
“Let’s go. I believe big brother's idea is the best.” Gillian smiled at Jennifer. Kevin nodded. He went to their middle, held both of their hands and walked towards class. Gillian and Jennifer giggled.
“Big brother is acting weird again.” They both looked up at their Big brother's face and smiled, Kevin smiled at their direction too. Then sighed.
“I don’t know the way back to class.” He said to himself, walking further until he reached the place where he removed his butterfly swords earlier.
“Great. Am getting better.”
---
“Stop right there!” Someone said, as six slightly sturdy build pupils were in their front, most of them holding planks.
“My junior brother told me you threatened him and his poor friends with knives.”
“Wonder shall never end, not only one knife but two knives, is this how stupid you are?” A girl among them said, annoyingly grinding her teeth on a chewing gum.
Kevin turned his face down at Gillian.
“Who are they?” he whispered,
“From Senior Secondary Three.” She whispered back.
“Really, and am iiiiiiinnnnnnnnn….?” He asked stretching his last rhetorical word.
“In Senior Secondary One.” Gillian whispered, as she shook her head.
“Seriously, Big brother. Did you hit your head or something?” Jennifer whispered, Kevin awkwardly smiled.
---
He glanced up at a wall clock above them. Break time almost over. “Great. Teachers will be here any minute… or maybe they’ll just watch. That’s how this school works.” He grumbled.
---
Meanwhile the other pupils were stunned. Suddenly the leader burst in anger.
“Hey!!! We are right here and you ignored us just like that!!!! Huh?! Boys! Surround them. We will teach them a lesson.”
Immediately four of the male pupils surrounded Kevin and his twin sisters. While the only girl in their midst was behind the leader.
“Good for them.” She said.
Kevin stared at his twin sisters’ faces.
“No reactions again, who are my twin sisters? Normal kids in front of danger they should be whimpering by now.” He thought, “Or is it because they saw me levitating earlier.” He shook his head trying to forget the scenario.
Suddenly Gillian and Jennifer looked at their brother and smiled.
“Oh! I get it. Am their big brother it is my duty to protect them no matter what.” He thought as he smiled back.
---
The leader placed his left hand in his pocket and used the other hand, cuddling his tiny growing beard on his lower chin.
“Boys. Deal with them.” He ordered.
Kevin held his twin sisters closer.
Suddenly one of the guys charged to Kevin and his twin sisters, with plank in his hand, swooped it.
Kevin pulled Jennifer behind him and kicked the person’s belly, he hoisted back far away from them, everyone was shocked except Kevin’s twin sisters.
---
**Jennifer whispered to Gillian, “Rate that kick.”
Gillian whispered back, “Nine out of ten.”**
---
Then he hit the ground and never stood up again.
“Did he pass out?” the girl asked, scooted to the guy on the floor. Kicked his side thrice then looked at the leader.
“He passed out.” The girl fretted.
“Break will soon be over. Finish this, quick!” the leader raged.
The guys all nodded as they rushed towards Kevin’s and his twin sisters.
Kevin kicked the one at the front, then back kicked the one behind him which they flew back to the ground, holding their belly, groaning.
Suddenly one tried to hit Kevin behind his back, he ducked it as the guy forcefully moved to their front facing the leader, Kevin kicked the guy’s buttock, he staggered until he stumbled at his leader’s feet.
Gillian and Jennifer sniggered while Kevin smirked.
“Oh, come on. Trying to hurt these two lovely twins. You have no shame.” Kevin teased.
---
“You wish.” The leader said, dashed to Kevin with great speed, with a close hit, Kevin stepped back with Gillian and Jennifer.
“You dodged that?!”
“Were you surprised?” Kevin smiled.
But inside he frowned. “Almost lost my guard. Can’t use my powers here. This isn’t the time.”
---
Kevin really almost left his guard down and noticed the leader may not be like the others groaning on the floor then he removed his hands from his twin sisters.
“Girls wait here. The leader and I have a little thing to talk about.”
He walked closer to the leader.
Kevin’s shoes crunched on the scattered sand and bits of trash near the back of the block wall. The faint echo of lunchtime chatter seemed far away now, muted by the tension.
“Uhm. Your move earlier, it does reminds me of people I met before-after.” Kevin slangily said, talking about the two Vigors who kidn*pped him and his friend before his death, ten years after.
His tone was almost casual, but his eyes flickered coldly as the memory stabbed through him.
“What are you murmuring about, don’t you have respect for your senior?!”
“Me, respect? If not for respect. You would be on your kneels begging for your life.”
Kevin’s voice dropped lower, quieter. Deadly calm. The other boys shifted uneasily. Even the girl chewing gum paused mid-grind.
“When did big brother become this cool?” Jennifer whispered.
“Ever since, he came back from the hospital.” Gillian replied.
“Yeah, right the hospital. Is a strange place to be.” Jennifer said as both her and Gillian stared at their big brother.
Their eyes shone, half proud, half worried. Gillian clutched her wrist, fingers twitching nervously.
The leader tried to punch Kevin, he sidestepped and returned it back with a kick on the leader's knee, which made him to stoop down with the hit kneel.
There was a sharp c***k as foot met bone. The leader let out a pained howl.
“Now I’m being disrespectful.” Kevin phrased.
He leaned in close, face in shadow, a cruel little smile twisting his mouth.
The leader grunted then about lifting himself up, Kevin stepped on his thigh, the other leg that was not kneeling.
“Ugh!!!” the leader grunted, spittle flying from his clenched teeth as his eyes watered. Kevin smiled, eyes narrowed, one brow c****d in mock pity, suddenly someone touched him from behind.
“It’s enough, Kevin. Let go of your Senior.”
The voice was low, firm. Authority in every syllable.
Kevin narrowed his brows, removed his leg and turned.
Dust kicked up as he pivoted. He could see his sisters in the corner of his vision watching tensely.
“And you are…..” he looked at his twin sisters.
Gillian put her two hands at the sides of her mouth, said in a low tone.
“Big brother. He is the Head Boy.”
Kevin blinked, processing. His nostrils flared slightly as he exhaled. The other boys began shifting back, relief written on their faces. Even the girl with the gum stopped smirking.
“Oh, I see. Then.” He walked passed him.
He didn’t even spare the Head Boy another look. His boots scuffed the concrete deliberately, leaving scuffs like a warning.
“Girls, let’s go back to class. Break is over.”
His voice cracked with effort to stay calm. Gillian and Jennifer nodded, held their big brother hands and left. The three of them moved as one, heads held high, like a little royal procession leaving a conquered court.
After, the head boy looked at the groaning guys on the floor, then at the guy who was unconscious and the leader who was still kneeling with a twisted face.
Blood was smeared on one boy’s elbow, a split lip oozed onto his white uniform. A faint metallic smell hung in the corridor.
“Gregor! Gregor! I mean Head Boy.” The girl cried, running to him.
Her voice was shrill, cracking as panic seeped in.
“He is the one, he tried threatening the primary pupils with knives and have the gut to beat us when we tried talking to him. Gregor thank you for coming to our aid, if not for you….”
“Shut up, Basirat!” The leader yelled, lowering his head, breathing heavily.
He wiped his mouth with the back of his sleeve, leaving a crimson streak.
Gregor glanced at Kevin then he smirked.
He could still see Kevin’s back as he walked away, calm, unbothered. A flicker of interest—or maybe challenge—lit Gregor’s eyes.
“Hmmmm. Is that so?”
