Chapter 5 Elliot Sandberg’s POV: Realising that none of the board members were jumping to accept my dad’s stupid obsession to merge with the Wilson’s firm, he was getting visibly frustrated. I think he is starting to also realise that he is not going to win this. He is realising that he may lose against me. And I know for sure that that fact infuriates him more than anything at the moment. What is he going to do? What can he do? Knowing my dad, he will take every measure to win. Even at the expense of hurting others. I know that. I have experienced that “Okay. I understand all your concerns.” My dad sighed and said, almost looking like he had given up on his stupid obsession. But I know better than that. “How about Elliot here? Find us a better firm to partner with. If he is so adamant on not partnering with the Wilson’s, he should find us a better partnership. Our business needs to expand. Not just Europe, but in other continents too!! Right now, we only have our hotels and resorts in the UK and some European countries. That is not enough. I want my firm to expand globally!! I want it to have global recognition. That is why I chose the Wilson’s firm. It was perfect. Yes, they might not be doing well now. But they have their reach everywhere. They also have their business expanded in South America, and Asia!! By investing in their business, we can control how to leverage this partnership according to how we want it. How is it not better for our company? But hey, if Elliot thinks it’s not a good investment, okay. I will let it go.” My dad put forth his arguments forward. Like I said, he has a lot of tricks under his sleeves. I would not be surprised if he managed to sway some of the board members. He is, after all, a master manipulator. That is what he is very good at. “But Elliot, if you do not find a firm that is 10 times better than the Wilson’s we will be going with my plans for my firm. And my plan is the merger with the Wilson’s, as I have already explained to the board,” Dad says, looking right at me. He even has a sly smirk on his face, like he knows he has got me blocked. Then he looks towards the others and continues to speak, “What do you all think? Does this not sound like a good plan?” Dad asked around, and everyone looked like they were in deep thoughts, which I did not like one bit. That means they are considering his stupid plans, which means that there is a possibility he could win. I cannot let that happen!! “What you say does sound good Andrew. But it is also a risk that I don’t want us to jump into without exploring other options.” Mr. Ivan Allard, who was around the same age as dad, spoke first. Then he turned to me and said, “Elliot, do you have any other better options that we can look at?” He asked me. Did I have any other options? Yes, I did!! I had a list of 5 different companies that we could partner up with other than the Wilson’s!! They are ten times better than the Wilson’s company!! But that is not enough!! I need to get something a hundred times better than the Wilson’s to make sure that the board members will not even think of partnering with the Wilson’s. I need to find The One company which is the best of the best, which will be the best edition for our company. “I do have a few really good options in mind. Options that are way better than the Wilson’s. I am looking into one of them, which if we partner with, will increase our reach throughout the world. I should..” I started to talk hoping to convince the board member to give me some time to come up with the best option, but my dad interrupted me. “Oh come on, Elliot? Is this what I have taught you? I thought you knew better than this. You should have narrowed down the company that you want to partner with by now. You are just wasting our time here,” my dad said and scoffed at me while trying to hide his smirk. He was pushing my buttons, and he knew it, and that only frustrated me. “Andrew, he said he had the list of companies. I say we should give him a few days, and he will give us the name of one company that is a better fit than the Wilson. I think it is more than reasonable. After all, based on the report that he has given us today, he has done an excellent job at it. How about next week, we meet again and Elliot will have the company ready for us to think of? How about that?” Mrs. Abigail Richard spoke up, which gave me some confidence. That was good. She was in my corner. “I don’t know Abigail. I do not like having my time wasted so much. Elliot should have had the company picked by now, if he did not want to partner with the Wilson’s. But that being said, I personally do not want this company to be partnered with the Wilson’s purely based on this report and their reputation. And only for that reason, I am willing to give Elliot one week to pick a company,” Ed Dubois said, which surprised me. He is not known to be a patient man. So, I really appreciate this support. “Well then. It is decided. We will continue this discussion next week and, hopefully, Elliot will make us happy again. Now, let us move to our next agenda. The upcoming annual company gala. It is in three months, and we have to finalise some details, so our management team can move forward with the preparations. Any suggestions?” My grandpa said, and then diverted the topic to the next agenda. I was really grateful for that, because I was running out of patience here. I need to get a company that no one, not even my father, can say no to. For the reminder of the meeting, this was the only thought in my mind. I really need to find one soon. Looking at the list of companies I have right now, I am not satisfied with them much. I need to get The One company soon!! Which company would be the best to move forward with?
