Chapter 3
Elliots POV:
“Everybody has arrived for the board meeting and now are waiting for you. They are waiting in the conference room.” Bruce informs me about the board meeting that my father had called for. He was quick on this. He did not wait for after our last conversation at my office nor has he given the usual 48 hours of notice before calling this board meeting. It has only been a day. I had received a lot of calls regarding this meeting as none of the other board members, other than my grandpa, knew why my father wanted to keep this meeting.
My dad is going to speak about merging our company with Wilson’s shipping company. I don’t know what the Wilson’s have told my dad about their company status or why my dad is so interested in their company. Our business is more involved in construction and hotels, while the Wilson’s deal with shipping and transportation. Their business is not in debt, but they are not in profit as well. In simple terms, they are just existing. Any major step in their business right now can either be good for their company or extremely bad. And if we invest in their company, it can lead us to a major setback. Which I can not afford right now. Especially when we are going through the process of expanding our business throughout Europe.
Our hotels are the top destinations in the UK right now, with a reputation for our luxurious and extraordinary facilities. And my vision is to expand it throughout Europe and then Asia and America. In the past 7 years, I have managed to open a holiday resort in Switzerland, Sweden, Greece and Italy. Right now, I am in the process of expanding my business in France, Spain and Germany. I am not just planning on having one of our hotels in every country in Europe, but at least 3. But to do this I need to keep my company’s image perfect. But if my dad keeps insisting on this merger with the Wilson’s, I don’t think I will be able to keep a perfect image for my company. Being associated with them will be like shooting my own company’s future.
I can not afford to lose my business. Not under my watch.
“Yes, you go ahead. I will be there in 5 minutes,” I said to Bruce as I shut my laptop and checked my phone to see if I had any new updates from my private detective. Last evening he had texted me that he might have gotten something, but needed to confirm it. I had told him that I wanted the new information on my desk by this evening. Seeing his message that he has some new information has lit my eyes, but at the same time I am scared of what the update could be. I just hope, whatever it is, my angel is safe and happy.
After checking my phone and not finding anything from my private detective, I closed my phone and went to the conference room, where my assistant, Bruce, was waiting for me at the door. He gave me the list of people who were in the conference room, which were all the 4 board members. Mrs. Daniella Saltzman, Mr. Ivan Allard, Mr. Ed Dubois and Mrs. Abigail Richard. All of them own 5 percent of our company, whereas the other 80 percent of the company shares belong to me, my grandpa and my dad, where me and dad are the highest shareholders on our company board.
I entered the conference room and saw that my dad was not in the conference room with the others. My assistant, Bruce, realized that too.
“I was just informed that he had gone out to pick up a call.” Bruce informed me softly. I just nodded at him at the information.
“That’s alright. Pass the files to everyone in the room. Let them read through the reports till my dad comes back.” I told Bruce to pass the files that I had him organize. I had asked him to do a detailed report on the Wilson’s company, going back to at least the last 10 years, and as expected the report was just like I thought about the company. The Wilson’s company was not doing any good. I had also asked Bruce to do a report on our past and upcoming projects, showing our growth and our potential growth. He has done an excellent job in showing everything and with this report the board members will understand my reasoning for not investing in the Wilson’s company in any way.
“I have a complied report on the matters that will be discussed in this meeting. This will help us make a detailed decision which will be beneficial for our company. Please take your time with the report, and we can continue the meeting when Chairman Sandberg will be back.” I told everyone in the conference room as Bruce was distributing the report file to them. Some looked confused, but my grandpa looked happy. He had a proud smile on his face. He should. He has taught me well. He had taught me to always come prepared for every battel, even if it is small. In his words, ‘this whole life is a battel.’ And he is right. It’s better to be prepared all the time rather than having to think about the things we could have done to prevent the outcome. I learned this hard way and lost the one precious thing I had in my life. I lost Her.
Everyone started going through the reports until my dad entered the conference room, which was after 20 minutes. When my dad entered the conference room, he looked annoyed. He said something to his assistant, Mr. Kenneth, and gave his assistant his personal credit card and whispered something to him. After that, Mr. Kenneth left the conference room. I think the phone call was from his loving mistress, Agatha, who is still as annoying as ever.
She used to be dad’s personal assistant, but after I was made the CEO, dad let her go from her personal assistant duties as she did not have any work at the office, and also the fact that I had made it clear that I did not want her in my office or in my building. Agatha was against this, because her not working as my dad’s personal assistant meant that she could not attend any of the events with dad without raising any questions.
One of the conditions for allowing her to stay with my dad was that the outside world should not know about their affair. For the rest of the world, my dad is still happily married to my mom, that they are having a perfect married life and have a little family. Little does the world know that this can not be further away from the truth.
“Andrew, nice of you to finally join us here,” My grandfather said to dad as he sat on his seat. My dad just gave him a stiff nod and took the file that Bruce had placed in front of him. He read through the first page and as he turned the papers, his expression kept changing from confusion to embarrassment to a hint of anger. Then he looked at me with his angry gaze. If not for the other people in the room, he would be throwing tantrums right now. And me? I was just enjoying knowing that I had hit his nerve. There is no way the rest of the board will be agreeing to merge with the Wilson’s after reading the report that I had presented to them.
