This was the longest two hours of my life. The smell of antiseptic clung to me like a second skin, the cool hospital air swirled around, making me shiver despite the heat that burned beneath. The whole time, I didn’t look at Roman, but I felt him beside me—solid, silent, infuriating. He was trying not to show it, but I knew he was restless. Glancing at the clock every few seconds, as if that would make the doctors work faster. The past few weeks with Matteo started to play in my head, like a movie.
