Chapter 17 Begin at the beginning. I’d decided to read Esther’s writings from the start, rather than just flick through and read at random. Curiosity had turned into an absolute need to have a panoramic view of the family, to understand what was at its core. I wanted to be able to look at it the way it really was. Esther’s observations about our family were incredible. Her perceptions of Beatrice, Clara, Arthur Turridge, and my grandmother were absolutely accurate. But what really struck me was that those entries were written in the years that we treated her like a child. It was almost unbelievable.
