Rocky and Sly were laughing at the movie they were watching when Nikki rushed into the room. Her eyes were wide with fear until they landed on Sly. She raced to him and hugged him tight, holding on until he squirmed and pushed at her to let him go.
“Sorry, honey,” she said with a smile that didn’t touch her eyes.
She sat on the edge of the bed and stared at him for a minute. Rocky studied her. She was worried. She had every right to be worried, but there was something else going on. He could feel her anxiety and the tension in her body, and something wasn’t okay.
