Nicole watched as Rocky processed her words. It was clear he understood exactly what she meant. Hell, until he pounded on her door and stopped Zeke’s partner from taking the first payment, she really was convinced he was a part of the entire thing.
She should have known better. It didn’t matter that she hadn’t seen him in seven years and had only spent a few days with him, he wasn’t that kind of man. He was the kind who watched out for the people he cared about.
“What deal did you make with him, Nikki? Sorry, Nicole.”
Nicole finally pushed herself to stand, ignoring Rocky’s outstretched hand. Her legs were shaky and her breath still ragged, but she had to stand on her own two feet to prove to herself she still could physically even if mentally she wasn’t quite there yet.
