CHAPTER NINETEEN
The Demonstration
“Lizzy here!” Jonathan called her as she furtively moved from the kitchen toward the library. She didn’t know that he already had company in the drawing room. “Come,” he motioned her with his hand, looking surprisingly sober and civil. Very rare.
“Sir?”
“Here. Come here, girl.” He treated her much the same way she imagined that he treated his whores.
She obeyed quickly and his arm went about her waist, as he guided her into the drawing room.
The lights were low, but not so low that she couldn’t see the several gentlemen lounging on the chairs and sofa. There were only two other women in the room and they seemed firmly fixed to Arthur Norbel and Stephen Sexus, Jonathan’s most intimate friends. The third man present Lizzy had never seen before.
