Lucinda's POV
I gasped loudly, lifting my head with effort. The airbag had saved me from a nasty head injury, but a dull ache still throbbed through my skull.
I exited the car, ready to unleash the anger simmering beneath my surface on the fool who couldn't handle his wheel on the road.
“What if I had lost my life!” I shouted, palm still pressed to my tender head.
“The last time I checked you were in my lane.” He said, his tone dripping with arrogance and pride. “Trying to defend yourself won't save you from cleaning your mess.” He added. I looked at him speechless, and I didn't have the energy to argue with him; my life was in a bigger mess than this.
So I dipped my hand inside my purse and brought out the little cash I had with me. Just when I was about to give him he spoke again. “You must be a joker to think that the thing you are holding can fix the damage.” He said increasing the irritation I was now feeling.
“What do you…” my words died seeing the Ferrari I just damaged. With my recent spending on my anniversary, there is no way I can pay for that. And this man isn't ready to let this slide.
“Uhm…can I…uhm…get this done tomorrow? You can take my number and work card so you can trust me I won't run away.” I tried pleading, hoping he understood. Without a word, he collected my card and left. I managed to drive my damaged car home with my head still throbbing. Can't wait to collapse on my bed and cry out my feelings.
I walked in and was greeted with the angry face of my mother-in-law.
“Where are you coming from? By this time, you unfaithful b***h?” She barked.
“Say that to your son,” I said, letting out a scoff. She instantly gave me a puzzled look, to avoid further confusion, I briefly explained what her favorite son did.
“Why are you wicked?” She asked, and I furrowed my brows trying to comprehend her words. “You can't treat my son right; now that he decided to find happiness, you see a problem. You should be happy he let you keep the family name.” She said, wait, is this about their family name or the emotional trauma her son is making me go through?
Well, I am not surprised; my mother-in-law was never in support of our marriage, but Micheal assured me that we would win her heart, and I foolishly believed him. The one who I am supposed to run to when in pain is now the one causing me pain.
“Well coming from the Detroit family, I never expected you to be sensible.”
“Please don't insult my…” Before I could finish my sentence, I felt a sting across my cheeks.
“You must be bold to think you can interrupt me. I hope this slap will constantly be a reminder not to step on your boundaries.” She said and left, leaving me alone with nothing but pain. I collapsed on the floor and let out my emotions. Is this my karma for loving wholeheartedly? Or my punishment for going against my mom’s warning?
My mother's voice suddenly echoed in my head. “You will regret this.” I hate to accept that she is right.

My eyes opened slowly, and my gaze landed on the wall clock. f**k I am late; I pushed myself up and hurriedly took my bath, and left the house. I got to the office and noticed the tension in the office, coupled with the weird stares I was getting from my colleagues.
“You are late again.” My boss screamed from behind. I turned and looked at him trying to keep a pity face. “No excuses today, I can't be paying you every month for not coming early, and you keep doing a bad job. Are the slides for the presentation ready?” He asked and I nodded my head sideways. I was supposed to get that done last night, but due to my mental breakdown, I forgot. I began hearing giggles and murmurs from behind, but I ignored them as they weren't my problem now, and besides, I was used to this.
If Micheal had treated me like his legal wife and taken care of my needs like he had promised I wouldn't be here to face humiliation from them.
“What do you mean, NO!!! The CEO will be here today, what do we present?” He yelled, making me flinch. “I didn't accept your lazy ass here to make mine miserable.”
“Enough.” A loud voice commanded from behind my boss. I raised my head slowly to see my Savior, but instead of gratitude, my heart skipped in fear seeing Mr. Arrogant from yesterday. Why does he have to come this early and at the wrong time?
“Mr. Nicholas, uhm…welcome.” My boss greeted him, bowing his head and that's when it dawned on me that Mr. Arrogant was the CEO of my company. I closed my eyes embarrassed as yesterday’s encounter played in my head.
“You are fired,” Nicholas said. I smiled, opening my eyes. I know there is no way he would let what happened between us pass. Seeing my boss’s worried face, I realized I wasn't the one fired but him.
I let out a sigh of relief, but it didn't last long seeing Nicholas gaze on mine and begin walking towards me, each step making my heart beat faster.
“You need to fix your damage,” Nicholas said, grabbing my hand and taking me away from the office, increasing the tension in the air.
“Thank you,” I said softly, at least if this is the little I can do to appreciate not firing me and saving me the embarrassment. “I owe you this,” I added but Nicholas ignored me, his eyes still on the road as we drove to the mechanic. We got there, and he gave them his key and instructed me to follow him to the tea shop close. We were served tea, and I tried concentrating on drinking my tea and not trying to figure out what was going on in Nicholas's head.
“I don't like it when you are intimidated,” Nicholas said, breaking the silence. His eyes burned with fury. Leaving me wondering why the reaction.
“I won't always be there for you.” He added, increasing my confusion. He let out a deep breath and took my hands into his. “I might sound crazy but I love you, Lucinda.” He confessed, my mouth dropped and I pulled my hand from his. He isn't sounding crazy but he is crazy.
Yes, I must admit he is cute and hot, every girl would want him as her partner. But I can't forget the consequences of falling in love. Why am I thinking this? I am married and there is no way this can happen cause I am not giving up on me and Micheal.
Before I could process what was happening, Nicholas started coming close, his eyes fixed on my lips and I closed my eyes.
“LUCINDA.” A familiar voice yelled, I snapped open my eyes to find Micheal, his eyes blazed with anger.
