CHAPTER ELEVENStepping out of sss Rain Forest onto the sidewalk was like stepping out of a steaming jungle and into a chilly city. The sun was about to disappear into a fog bank that had rolled through the Golden Gate and had already hidden San Francisco. The air had only warmed a little during the afternoon, and now it held an early-evening chill. Marvia shivered. The streetlamps had blinked on and darkness was encroaching. The fog had crept inland from the bay and the sky had turned a somber gray. She stood outside Bara Miyako, studying the red rose logo painted inside the glass and scanning the diners beyond.
