Tina stood in shock for ten seconds as though she had a brain freeze. It was as though she was day-dreaming, so she had to pinch herself to see if she could feel pain, but she wasn't dreaming.
She felt maybe it was an illusion or something, but for a while, but what and who was before her was real, even though she actually doubted it.
“Hello?” He said, as he was really shocked to see her too.
There was no reply as she was still wondering if it was a hallucination. Rex had to wave at her, so she could return from her dream.
“Hello??” He said again, this time waving at her as she kept staring at him.
“Yes sir, sorry sir” she said when she regained consciousness, “Good morning sir.”
“Yeah, it seems you're surprised to see me. Do you remember me?” he said with a smile.
“Hmmm, No, sorry yes sir” she muttered. She kept thinking, how could it be that it was Rex of all the people talking to her, she was still surprised.
“I am surprised too, how did you get to know this place?” Rex asked, looking straight into her eyes.
"I came for an interview, Sir” she said.
“Ohh nice, have a seat” he said, pointing to the chair in front of him. He kept staring at her and was surprised how the same girl he was chasing after some days back was right in front of him.
“Okay sir, Thank you sir” she said as she sat down. The chair was really soft and very comfortable.
“Please stop calling me Sir, okay, Rex” he persuaded.
“Okay sir” she said unknowingly.
“Rex please” he insisted.
“Okay Sir Rex” she said.
He was silent for a while and then said, “That's by the way, so you want to apply?”
“For?” She asked as she was still lost in thought, “Ohhh, Yes Sir, for the post of secretary.”
“Just quit with the Sir you keep saying, okay?” he corrected.
“Alright” she said, not intending to annoy him, “you work here?” She asked.
He was staring at her beautiful face, admiring her beauty and then replied “Actually, my Dad owns this company and I inherited it so am the CEO currently”.
“Ohh, you're Rex Anderson, his son, why didn't this come to my head?” She asked herself. Well she wouldn't blame herself though, she had only heard of him because his name was quite popular, but she hadn't seen him before.
“So are you ready?” He asked.
“Yess!” She said with a little excitement.
“Hope you know that after I interview you, the Board will also interview you before you are given the job?”. He asked.
She was quiet as she never saw that coming. The smile and excitement in her face had vanished. She was actually happy earlier because she was familiar with Rex, so the interview would go on well, but on hearing she would have to face the Board to be accepted, her fears came back.
“Don't worry, you will do well” he assured her. She just nodded. “So can we begin?”
He asked.
“Yes sir” she said, this time he didn't react.
The interview lasted for a while, but it wasn't that bad for her. At least, she was free and open-minded. Rex, on the other hand, took it as an opportunity to know her better, as his feelings for her were still there.
The interview was really a nice one as at some point they were laughing and smiling. Rex started by asking her about her qualifications and her past work experiences. Then, with time, he went private and asked questions about her family.
Though it was quite long, the interview was quite an enjoyable one. Rex, however, kept staring at her into the eyes, though at some point she avoided eye contact. Within 15 minutes, he was done.
“Is that all?” She asked, as she was somewhat surprised.
“Yeah, or do you want more?” He asked.
“Not really, just surprised, that's all” she said with a smile.
“Actually, you're perfect for me—” he said.
“—Oh Thank God, thank you sir” she said as she was filled with so much joy.
“Yeah, let's just pray the Board accepts you too” he said.
There was silence as the thought of her facing some group of people, asking her different questions was terrifying. She just prayed she does well and got the job because the thought of her going home without the job would make her sick.
“Don't worry, you will do well” he assured her, “you look beautiful by the way”, he said, looking her straight into the eyes without blinking.
“Thanks” she said while blushing.
“And also, about the other day, I am sorry that happened,” he pleaded.
“It's fine” she assured.
“Honestly, I don't know what came over me. I think it was the al—” he tried explaining.
“—it's fine OK” she repeated. “I also don't know what came over me, but it's OK.”
“So are we good?” He asked.
“Yeah, sure” she said.
“That's great!” He said as he heaved a sigh of relief. “Let's go see the Board then.”
“So soon?” She asked, as she was getting scared.
“Yeah, they are waiting” he said.
“Alright” she said as they both stood up, heading to the conference room. She let him lead the way while she was behind praying seriously in her heart so she didn't mess up.
When they entered, the other members of the Board were already seated and that surprised her. Rex made a little introduction of the Board members to her and vice versa, after which the final interview commenced.
At first, it started fine, but with time it became so long she became nervous that at some point she prayed the earth opened its mouth and swallowed her. The questions came from different angles and at some point, when he turned towards Rex, he was just there smiling.
She started sweating despite the room having enough air conditioners. As she was answering to the best of her ability, she prayed the interview would end soon so she would go home and just get a warm bath as her brain wanted to explode.
Soon it ended, so she was asked to excuse them so they could finally decide. When she came out, she could hardly breathe well, so she sat down so she could calm down, but when she remembered that they were inside deciding her fate, she couldn't help panting.
It took them five minutes to finally decide, after which Rex came out to finally disclose the news to her. She stood up with a lot of expectancy but the expression on Rex's face made her feel the worst was about to happen.
