Tina cleaned up her tears and tried to hide the fact that she was sacked from work, so her Stepmom wouldn't be know. The aroma coming from the kitchen made her salivate as her Stepmom was preparing pancakes and bread for breakfast.

When she came in, she rushed into the fridge to get something cold to drink, maybe soda. Then, when her step mom saw her, her faced changed as though she had seen a witch.

“What happened? Where are you going to?” Her stepmom asked.

“Nowhere ma, Wanted going to my room”, Tina replied as she felt sad at the way her Stepmom treats her but she was used to it.

“Breakfast will soon be ready and I wouldn't come to your room to call you”, She said to her.

“Okay Ma'am” Tina said as she went straight to her bed.

“Carassing your pillow and sinking into your bed is what your good at" Mrs Gabriel said and sighed.

There was silence, Tina paused for awhile as the words sank down through her body. She was really getting fed up with her Stepmom. After awhile, thoughts of her mom flashed back into mind. She missed the feeling of engrossing herself into her mother's arms.

“Any issue?” Mrs smith asked as she saw how Tina stood like a statue.

Tina on the other hand, said nothing, she shakes her head and turns to leave but was interrupted by her Stepmom.

"Come and have your meal, so you wouldn't say I starved you to death" She said.

Tina turned to but on seeing how small the food was, her appetite left her.

"Don't worry ma'am, am fine" Tina then turned to leave. The last response she could hear of her Stepmom was a long hiss after she left.

Tina left for her room, but what was on her mind was how she could apply for another job, so she rushed to her laptop and kept on searching for close to two hours till she found one. It was a job vacancy for the post of secretary at ANDERSONS GROUP OF COMPANIES, which was a big and popular company.

So she wrote an application letter hoping to get a favourable reply as actually her fear wasn't losing her job but getting another one as soon as possible. She stayed on her laptop for some hours and slept off.

Mrs Gabriel came to her room and saw it opened, Tina was sleeping, she just closed the door and left.

In the next two hours, Tina's phone rang and that was when she realized she was actually sleeping. It was her boyfriend, James. She cleaned her eyes and picked.

“Hello baby” James said from the other end.

“Hi” Tina said as she yawned.

“Oh my, were you sleeping?” he asked.

“Yeah, but it's fine” she said.

“Are you sure?” He asked.

“Yeah, so what's up baby?” She asked. “How's work going?”

“Fine dear, yours?” He asked.

She paused.

“Hello?” He said.

“Ohh, sorry work is fine” She said.

“Okay, I called because I would be free tonight, so I was wondering if you could come visit since it wouldn't be your shift right?” He asked.

“Oh yeah, no problem” she said.

“Alright, love you” he said, intending to end the call.

“Much love, bye” she replied as she fell back on her bed to continue sleeping.

That evening, she packed and left for his place, which was a few streets from hers. So she boarded a taxi to take her there. In the taxi, a lot of thoughts flashed through her mind, based on the fact that she had just lost her job. She was really worried.

She just prayed she would get another job soon, not just soon, but very soon, so it wouldn't be noticed that she was sacked. In less than 10 minutes, the taxi driver calling her to pay up was what brought her mind back.

“We are here, ma'am” the driver said.

“Oh okay” she said.

“You haven't paid me yet, ma'am” he said, as she was about to leave.

“Ohh, take, thank you” she thanked him and stepped out.

“You're welcome, ma'am” he said and drove off.

She crossed the road to the other side, towards a storey building in which James' apartment was ona the top floor. James was preparing dinner, some noodles, when he heard a knock on the door. He was happy when he saw Tina.

“Hey babe” James said with outstretched arms and a smile.

“Hi love” Tina said as they hugged and kissed.

“How are you doing?” He asked.

“Fine, how about you?” She asked as she walked in.

“Just trying to make us dinner” he said, heading back to the kitchen.

“Hmm, smells really nice” she complimented him.

“Yep, so how's work?” He yelled from the kitchen. He was lucky he came back in time as the food almost got burnt.

There was silence. It lasted for a while as Tina didn't want to respond. She sat on the couch watching the TV in silence, waiting for the meal.

“As I asked earlier, how was work?” James said as he took the meal from the kitchen to the dining room.

“Work?” She asked as though she hadn't heard it earlier on, “Work's fine, work's good, just stress”.

James knew from her response, something wasn't right, or she was hiding something from him, so he asked, “Did something go wrong last night?”

“Last night? Nope, like I said, it's just stress okay, I am fine” she replied, trying to avoid eye contact with him, not wanting to open up, even though he kept persisting.

“Babe, are you sure? You know you can tell me anything at all right?” He continued, “I know how you look and sound when things aren't alright, so tell me what happen—-”

“I got sacked today babe, and am so confused because I don't know what to do next, how to get another job and am even scared to tell Stepmom, Ohh God know I don't want to get into trouble with her” She cut in immediately, at first, it was as though a little burden was lifted, but James was calmly listening.

“That's sad” James said in a consoling manner.

“I'm so confused babe” she said as she broke into tears as he rushed to give her a hug.

“Don't worry, everything is going to be fine, okay?” he assured her.

“I hope so, just feeling bad and sad since Mom died” she said, still sobbing.

“Don't worry dear, they will be fine, just don't be disturbed” he said, trying to console her. He then remembered the food which he placed in the dining room, and continued “Hey babe, how about we eat the food so it doesn't get cold. That way you will feel better”.

“Alright, even though I have lost my appetite” she said.

“Just have a taste” he said, carrying her to the dining table.

When she tasted it, it was really nice that she couldn't stop. She kept munching on and on in silence.

“Seems you like it right” he said as he watched her devour the meal.

“Hmmm, yeah” she said, as she couldn't talk much because of the food in her mouth.

When they were done eating, she followed him to the room because she planned on spending the night with him. They laid together in bed, her head on his chest while he was touching her hair romantically.

The room was dark and there was silence for a while till James broke it, “You know I love you, right?” He inquired.

“Yeah babe, and I love you so much” she said with surprise in her face, “Why did you ask dear?”

“Nothing dear” he said, still rubbing her hair.

There was another silence, then James spoke again,“ Babe, are you in the mood for—-” he paused, expecting her to understand that he was in the mood for s*x.

“For?” She asked, “Ohh, nope Hun, am not in the mood, okay?” She said, hoping he understood.

“It's fine” he said, still touching her hair.

After a while, he slept, and her phone beeped. What she saw made her smile so well that she said in her heart, "Now I can sleep in peace"
